Got a tattoo that said "2gether thru life"
Carved in your name with my pocket knife
And you wonder when you wake up, will it be alright oh oh
Feels like there's something broken inside

All I know
All I know
Is that I'm lost
Whenever you go
All I know
Is that I love you so
So much it hurts

Got a tattoo and the pain's alright (Oh oh oh oh)
Just want a way of keeping you inside (Oh oh oh oh oh)

All I know
All I know
Is that I'm lost
In your fire below
All I know
Is that I love you so
So much it hurts

I see the road begin to climb
I see the stars begin to shine
I see your colors and I'm dying of thirst

All I know
Is that I love you so
So much that it hurts

Oh yeah yeah yeah
So much it hurts
So much it hurts

    My Interpretation

She can't belong to his life but he wants her to. So he makes a tattoo because it's the best way to keep her inside.

I don't know, but this song reminds me of "In My Place", there are lines you can't change.

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
