In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
God only knows why we were born to burn
If God is my witness, He'll see that all is not well
Christ, what a sight for sore eyes
Looking down on us, all the children that You despise
God only knows why we were born to burn
God only knows why we were born to burn
A bullet in the neck doesn't feel much like love
A message of rejection sent from above
No flags, no holy books
I'll be in hell with the misunderstood
The sons and daughters that you wished to forget
A desperate picture of God's regret
Are we perfect mistakes?
Or almighty fuck ups?
One thing's for sure, He doesn't fucking love us
He doesn't fucking love us
Hate must weigh on you like a broken cross
Hate; the dividing line we'll never step across
Outcast and reject
Outcast and reject
Father, Father, how I've let you down
A fucking tyrant in a hollow crown
Father, father, how I've let you down
A fucking tyrant in a hollow crown
The sons and daughters that you wished to forget
A desperate picture of God's regret
Are we perfect mistakes?
Or almighty fuck ups?
One thing's for sure, He doesn't fucking love us
He doesn't fucking love us
He doesn't fucking love us
If God is my witness, He'll see that all is not well
Christ, what a sight for sore eyes
Looking down on us, all the children that You despise
God only knows why we were born to burn
God only knows why we were born to burn
A bullet in the neck doesn't feel much like love
A message of rejection sent from above
No flags, no holy books
I'll be in hell with the misunderstood
The sons and daughters that you wished to forget
A desperate picture of God's regret
Are we perfect mistakes?
Or almighty fuck ups?
One thing's for sure, He doesn't fucking love us
He doesn't fucking love us
Hate must weigh on you like a broken cross

One thing's for sure, He doesn't fucking love us

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere.
In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
Amazing

Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
This song is easy to interpret:
"God only knows why we were born to burn" "Looking down on us, all the children that you despise" "A bullet in the neck doesn't feel much like love" "A message of rejection sent from above" "I'll be in h*ll with the misunderstood" "The sons and daughters that you wished to forget" "A f***ing tyrant in a hollow crown"
And, of course:
"One thing's for sure, He doesn't fucking love us"
It's so obvious I find it ridiculous that people would claim otherwise. But of course, even with a song this obviously anti-religion, people will stupidly claim that it's not anti-religious. Funny how that works. A lyric could say "God does not exist" and some religious fool who can't deal with reality would claim it was expressing God's reality and love.
The vocalist has already blogged about what the lyrics mean. We, humans, can relate to what the lyrics express throughout the song. We see it all the time through Westboro Baptist and other organizations (religious & non-religious) that approach teachings in a negative aspect that induces radical behavior that can destroy. If you put your faith into a higher power or yourself, keep positive and never stray from the light.
@CKwillburn The song has nothing to do with religious people being assholes. It quite plainly points out how ridiculous it is to claim that God loves us yet would punish us.

I don't care what the vocalist blogged. I've read it but vocalists lie and mislead, intentionally or not, all the time. They very often backtrack from what lyrics clearly say, as in this case.

The lyrics are pretty obvious.
