In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
You and me got ourselves a problem
I can see this better than I solve 'em
I believe I found a way around it
I will leave this better than I found it
There's too much smoke to see it
There's too much broke to feel this
I love you, I love you
And all of your pieces
There's too much smoke to see it
There's too much broke to feel this
I love you, I love you
And all of your pieces
History's a letter made of scarlet
Victories look better when you've called it
Misery's the moment when I lost you
It's pleasure in a costume
It's more than what it cost you
There's too much smoke to see it
There's too much broke to feel this
I love you, I love you
And all of your pieces
There's too much smoke to see it
There's too much broke to feel this
I love you, I love you
And all of your pieces
All of your pieces
All of your pieces
All of your pieces
All of your pieces
All of your pieces
All of your pieces
There's too much smoke to see it
There's too much broke to feel this
I love you, I love you
And all of your pieces
There's too much smoke to see it
There's too much broke to feel this
I love you, I love you
And all of your pieces
I can see this better than I solve 'em
I believe I found a way around it
I will leave this better than I found it
There's too much smoke to see it
There's too much broke to feel this
I love you, I love you
And all of your pieces
There's too much smoke to see it
There's too much broke to feel this
I love you, I love you

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Head > Heels

“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.
Initially, I thought this song was about him calling it off with someone but still loving them, even if it broke the other person. Reading the actual lyrics, I think it's more of a song about someone he loves, who is very insecure due to something in their past, and that clouds their judgment of themselves. They can't see that they are worth love, and being broken from that past, they don't feel that they are and can be loved ("too much smoke to see it," "too much broke to feel this"). He just wants this other person to know that he loves them no matter those insecurities brought on by the past.
I think you are right.
@hobbitpop i think youre right, currently there is a girl that recently broke up with her ex, she really likes me and, she knows i like her, but she doesnt feel like she is worth love, im still trying to convince her otherwise, and other are telling her it dont exist
I think this song is about a relationship where two person have said and done too much to hurt the other.. and then one of them finally gave up and decided to just let go thinking that they would be better off... but then when he/she finally did he was able to look at their relationship in a new light, realizing that living without the other person is much more miserable... figuring out that he love the other person.. all of her, even the things he hates about her its just that so many hurtful things have come between them and thats whats keeping him from seeing this before, thus the line too much smoke to see it, too much broke to feel this, but i love you, i love you, with all of your pieces... but now he finally did realize and now he wants her to realize this aswell..
@thelyricsgal This is how I view the lyric meaning of this song as well.<br />
@thelyricsgal both these comments are right im currently living this song, a girl that i once liked came back after a year later, i tried not falling for her, but i did and hard and i told her that i loved her, but from what i understand she recently broke up with her ex, and her selfsteam was really low and thought that i would loose intress in her, so instead of texting we played songs to each other, but the problem is all of my friends now dislike me, because they dont believe i fell in love with her, and they are telling her not to like me because i drink and party an do stupid stuff and that i could not possibly love her, + other exscues from what i understand (her friend hangs with my friends), and then i think she left or tried avoiding playing the songs for a while, and my "friends" started playing to me "nothing ever lasts" and "all girls are the same" and "fuck love" an other shit , but now today after while they or she played "pets monsters of men " "a thousand years" an this song "pieces" was last, so if youre comment is right and providing its not a joke from my "friends", theres still a chance, so i said lets meet and see, i might be crazy but they say hope is the last thing that leaves us.

@jen476mn @sarkkus I love your break down of that verse! It is perfect! Thanks for taking the time to respond!!
@jen476mn Thank you! The time spent is worth it considering how much I genuinely love this song (and Andrew Belle). What's your favorite song in the whole album (it's between "Dark Matter" and this song for me)?
@sarkkus Hands down it is "Pieces". A lot of it being I have had my own personal journey with the meaning of the lyrics of this song. I first feel in love with Andrew's music hearing the song "In My Viens" on Grey's anatomy. I have seen him live once. Such a talented singer and song writer, no doubt!
She was rejected by him, and he regrets not seeing what he had and not being able to accept her. He sees how it’s only added to her not seeing any value in herself. Maybe he put her on a pedestal and thought love had to be this pure, unadulterated thing, but he realizes that what makes someone beautiful is how all the ugly parts have shaped them. It makes a person more willing to accept others faults and to offer compassion to others. He realizes that the fantasy doesn’t exist, and it would be boring anyways. How could someone who really was perfect accept him? He was fooling himself to think he was any better and what is better? He thought he’d won by moving on, and he tried to convince everyone around him that he’s better off, but he’s not. He regrets losing her, and it hurts him more because he’s the one that did it. His loss is worse because he thinks about what could’ve been while she can more easily move on because he didn’t want her. Maybe he sees that it cost him before because she can find someone less complicated and find happiness elsewhere more easily than he can. He’s not nearly as happy as he wants to appear, and he may never be able to undo what he did. He thinks he’s figured out how to change the situation, but there’s no way to know if he can fix it. It may also be hard to explain to the people around him if he made a bunch of disparaging comments about her.
