A pastor swept away my wrongs
He put my mind at ease
He cannot do that for himself
He cannot change what he's seen
So he and I drove to the creek
And fished out some poor souls
The men who'd seen a bit too much
And couldn't keep their mouths shut
But I guess it's fair enough

I'm a fortune they never told
Afraid that I won't come true
I've been copying out the charts
I found and stole from you
How can anyone face a consequence
They can't understand?

I had a dream that nobody could fall asleep
And it was all my fault
For all my disbelief
Some original sin I couldn't take back
Said I was sorry
But maybe it's meant to be

And you were there telling me
How ashamed you were
And suddenly I felt no more guilt

A chemist pulled me to his side
He said he loathed what he had done
Said he had worked away his days
To give my God a different name
We built an orchard out of words
That had left their meanings
And since I felt their shade
I've found that everything is
Sickeningly simple when you strip it down

I think that everybody
Goes home alone
When the daylight dies

I'm a fortune they never told
Afraid that I won't come true
I've been copying out the charts
I found and stole from you
Did you know that we don't make sense
When you bring us into the light?
How can anyone face a consequence?
I just don't know

So I'll hide away my name
Until I finally hear the letters breaking down
Until the consonants and vowels resemble us

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

Amazing

Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
