Like the legend of the phoenix
All ends with beginnings
What keeps the planet spinning (uh)
The force of love beginning

(Look)

We've come too far to give up who we are
So let's raise the bar and our cups to the stars

She's up all night 'til the sun
I'm up all night to get some
She's up all night for good fun
I'm up all night to get lucky

What is this I'm feeling?
If you wanna leave I'm with it (ah)

    My Interpretation

The song is about Lust and Love. The two words are pretty much interchangeable in this song.

"Like the legend of the phoenix"

    • In Greek mythology, the phoenix is a bird that bursts into flames upon death and is reborn from its ashes. "All ends with beginnings,"
    • All - everything- life, the universe, love, etc. consists of cyclical patterns; death and regeneration like the phoenix. "What keeps the planet spinning,"
    • This is stressing the previous statement (giving evidence to 'all') The planet spins because of a gravitational force or attraction to the sun. However, the atoms that make up the physical universe, including our planet, were created from the previous death of an exploding star. [..we are all stardust.. Carl Sagan quote] We are alive because a star exploded, and out of that explosion life was formed. "The force of love beginning"
    • The force insinuates a force of nature. One cannot help falling in love, the planet cannot help itself from being pulled toward the sun. -The force of love 'beginning,': since earlier it said all ends with beginnings insinuates that their was a previous love that most likely ended in much hurt and devastation (as insinuated in the next line)

"We've come too far to give up who we are"

    • I think this line is what shows that his last break up must have been devastating to him. He probably gave up on love and convinced himself that he would never love another again. Apparently her too, because of the "we". Which probably makes it more exciting for the both of them. They have loved and lost, but they survived it all, and now here they are together. They can't deny their nature of being attracted to each other, this is why I think 'give up' was a great choice of words. Denying has an active connotation, where as 'giving up' paints a picture of hopelessness and disillusionment. So basically, they've both gone through a previous love and loss, gave up on love, and now have found someone who they are undeniably, and mutually attracted to. "So let's raise the bar and our cups to the stars"
    • This sentence is really cool because it has a lot of play on words. The first part, 'raise the bar': After the let down of the previous love, let's raise the bar to expect good things. Also, let's take this relationship to a new level (alluding to both a physical and emotional connection, but the physical connotation seems to be to be the predominant wish; which gives this song a sexy and seductive feel). Basically saying, we obviously both feel attracted and connected to each other, no use in holding back. -It also is playing off the double meaning of 'bar'. 'Let's raise the bar and our cups'. This also tells the listener that the two met at a night club and are having so much fun together drinking and probably dancing and enjoying music. This gives the dance tune a more lighthearted and fun feel, and helps confuse the words of lust and love. -The last part of the sentence, 'raising our cups to the stars' also has multiple meanings. One level is about toasting to luck and chance that they both found each other. (this reminds me of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet 'star-crossed lovers') And perhaps it also could refer to in a way of giving thanks to the previous stars that had to explode so that they could exist and meet each other. And just like appreciating that cycle, toasting to the loss of their previous loves so they could have each other that night. (and the night has stars…a toast to the night!)

"She's up all night 'til the sun" -This line is shows that the girl is fun, excited, and has a lot of energy, enough to stay up all night. Plus, she is having such a good time, I'm sure she doesn't want the night to end and wants to squeeze every bit out of it that she can. She's really making the most out the night and exuding love and excitement. "I'm up all night to get some" -This has multiple meanings. It's one of those sexy lines. First we think about 'getting some' as getting some sex, which as he referred to earlier is something he definitely wants. But he's not being sleazy or sneaky; he likes who she is. He wants to get some of her excitement. She's really turning him on in a physically and emotional way. "She's up all night for good fun"

    • She's having good fun. 'Good' is important here because although she's staying out all night and is about to get it on with a total stranger, nothing about what they are doing is wrong or unsafe in anyway. They are both true and everything feels right. "I'm up all night to get lucky"
    • Again with a sexy line! 'Getting lucky' most always refers scoring with a chick. In other words, getting lucky enough to have sex with her. And just like getting lucky and scoring the jackpot when gambling, he met this girl because of pure chance. I think it is also about how lucky he is that not only did he find this girl, but she also feels the same way. The 'stars aligned' just perfectly that their lives crossed paths at the perfect moment in time. That is truly getting lucky. -This is a very important line in the song. This line is repeated over and over through out the entire thing, and the song is even named "Get Lucky". This line truly wraps up what's going on that night, and the general meaning of the song all together. Getting lucky with love, and getting lucky with lust.

**I would also like to add one more personal interpretation of the lines grouped as a whole:

    • I think these lines also describe the difference between how men and women fall in love. I know making general statements about groups of individuals is never going to be 100% accurate or always happens this way, and by no means am I claiming that if you are a boy or a girl you are bound by your 'gender role'. But the way I also interpret this is a lot like my experiences of dating and falling in love. So this is coming from one girls perspective: The way I get turned on by a guy is being attracted to who he is and how he makes me feel. I am definitely falling in love with a guy when all I want to do is stay up all night talking and having fun, or just being with him. Of course I can be merely attracted to a guy's physical appearance, but when I'm really (really) turned on by him, I am first turned on psychologically. When I'm psychologically turned on, I am physically turned on. Once I paint a beautiful picture of him in my mind, my body just can't help but crave his touch.
    • I think being both mentally and physically attracted to someone is just as important to guys as it is to girls, but I think the primary difference is that guys are first physically turned on, and then later become emotionally bonded. There isn't a problem with either of these strategies (whether you are a guy or girl). But in the case of this song, the fact that the guy wants to have sex with her is exactly why he wants to get to know her, and the more the girl gets to know him the more she wants to have sex with him, too.

"We're up all night 'til the sun We're up all night to get some We're up all night for good fun We're up all night to get lucky" -The only difference between these lines and the ones before them is the introduction of 'We'. At first it was a 'you' and 'me', but as the night progresses the two has become a 'we'. They are bonding, or getting closer. Their wants and needs are the same. They have mutual feelings for each other. Regardless whether the physical or emotional attraction happened first doesn't matter; they both feel attracted to each other.

    "The present has no ribbon"

    • Yes, another cool play on words. The present as in what's happening right now, and a ribbon as in a gift. A present with a ribbon tied around it is a gift that is kept hidden; you don't know what's inside or what you are going to get. So without a ribbon means that at the present time nothing is hidden or concealed. There is nothing to fear. They are both open and just living the night as it goes moment by moment. "Your gift keeps on giving"
    • This is referring back to cycles. She is restoring excitement in his life, his faith in love has returned, he is developing a connection with another person again, and is physically turned by all she has to give. She is giving him emotional, spiritual, and physical gifts. The fact that her gift keeps on giving shows the deepening of their connection on all levels and the revival of love out of ashes. (by the way, being excited, interested, or experiencing love at first sight, is the emotional bond I'm talking about. The kind of way romeo and juliet were emotional about each other before they were ripped apart by their families and got all suicidal about it. And by spiritual I don't mean spirits, ghosts, or gods, I mean being connected with the universe, experiencing the cycles of life, and appreciating the rare times when everything seems to work out) "What is this I'm feeling?"
    • I'm sure you can interpret this one way and say he's questioning whether this is a strong feeling of love or one of pure lust, I mean, they did just meet. But I don't think that's it. There is no insinuations of unsureness or trepidation in the tone throughout the entire song; he's already spoke of love ("force of love beginning") and even raising the bar and taking it to the next level. So rather, I think he isn't questioning what he is feeling for her, but what the feeling is that he's feeling. It's something that he's never felt before. This is a completely new experience for him. He might have thought he loved before, but it never felt like this. "If you wanna leave I'm with it"
    • This line brings the listener back to the bar, or back down to earth. It shows that in such a short time they made an unbelievably strong connection that is just out of this world…yes! This is one of those sexy lines again! He is ready to leave whenever she is. I think it's up to her because she is having a great time and he doesn't want to cut her good time short, but he also can't wait to get her alone.

Well, that's my interpretation of the song. I think it's a pretty cool song because it paints such a full picture of star crossed lovers seizing the night and then actually getting lucky and having it work out for them--it runs pretty deep for a club/dance tune. But then again, it is Daft Punk. I think I would be more shocked if they released a bad song.

    My Interpretation

The first part could refer to the beginning when Thomas Guy-Manuel and Laurent Brancowitz were in a band called Darlin' and released a cassete tape called De la viande pour le disco? It only contained two tracks.

In a review made by the British music magazine Melody Maker, the author dubbed the music "a daft punky thrash. This is how they got their name.

    So here is my take:

Like the legend of the phoenix (Ha)

    It refers to Laurent Brancowitz

    All ends with beginnings

I refers to the style from the new album. Using instruments again. and the title of the cassette: De la viande pour le disco?

What keeps the planet spinning? (Ahh) A force of love beginning

Could refer to the name of the band Darlin'

(look) We've come too far to give up who we are

It probably means: We want to make instrumental music. but we are daft punk now

So let's raise the bar and our cups to the stars

So lets try make even better music and collaborate with the super stars of music on our new album. (Nile Rodgers, Giorgio Moroder, etc_)

    My Interpretation

The true meaning of this song is hidden deeply within the lyrics: It is my interpretation that the character, whose point of view the song is written from; is staying up all night to get lucky.

Like the legend of the phoenix All ends with beginnings What keeps the planet spinning (uh) The force of love beginning

(The Phoenix in Literature represents being reborn, this is most certainly an allocation that comes to falling in Love. The first verse represents it in the most coincidental of forms, walking into the discoteque and seeing a girl where you are sensationally star crossed by naturally encompassing love.)

We've come too far to give up who we are So let's raise the bar and our cups to the stars

(The word play insinuates that they both have love for two different entities but the coexist with one another harmoniously)

She's up all night 'til the sun I'm up all night to get some She's up all night for good fun I'm up all night to get lucky

(Pharrell enjoys the physical manifestation of love, while the alluded lady gains gratification from the spiritual and spacial manifestation of love, where she like a Phoenix may only turn a short period of death, or break up before she gains the power to rise from the ashes reborn and ready to roll with the distribution of love; I believe it is party sexual on his side in this verse, but overall sensual as he switches to WE for the majority of the song; to insinuate shared gratification)

We're up all night 'til the sun We're up all night to get some We're up all night for good fun We're up all night to get lucky

(Essentially they were lucky when they first placed eyes on one another. They realize having the ability to feel some form of love, but having someone to share it with makes their universe more intimate than sexual. Both separately and in shared sensation of love!)

    My Interpretation

A great song, and as Pharrell stated, more than a song about a sexual act, but also about feeling the imidiate connection when you meet someone.

    My Interpretation

Look unless I'm going crazy the words in the song released in Australia refer to mexican lucky which is cannabis and the song is about getting high and getting lucky with woman , I suppose.Pretty basic stuff, Shakespeare will be turning in his grave.Obviously high because they ran out of lyrics, "I'm up on mexican lucky" is repeated 60 or 70 times ? boring

    My Interpretation

"Get Lucky" a metaphor for Cosmic birth, re-birth and Interstellar travel

The song refers to the cosmic miracle of our existence. Born from the big bang, like the legend of the Phoenix, we are flung among the stars. The 'force of love beginning' is hints to the ascent of human emotion within the cosmos.

Raising the bar and our cups to the stars refers to interstellar travel. Here is why:

It is widely acknowledged by scientists, particularly Stephen Hawking, that our imperative should be master interstellar travel and discover other life-supporting planet in the universe. If not, humanity will perish. As the song says, 'we've come too far to give up who we are'. "If you want to leave (the planet), I am with it!" :)

Pharrell even hinted that the song is not about the surface meaning. :)

Finally, while thematically varied, Daft Punk's album, 'Random Access Memories' final track is 'Contact' - which features the soundtrack of an astronaut who is encountering a unidentified flying object in space. Furthermore, the track is synced to a sequence from the film, 2001: A Space Odyssey.

    My Interpretation

Could mean several things. You make your own meaning to the song. In my opinion this song could have several main meanings. Here are the main topics:

    1. About a relationship.
    2. About two people who really like/love or are attracted to each other
    3. Partying with people specifically a guy and a girl or just the band
    4. The band is explaining themselves how they made it from their beginning to whenever they will end

Lyrics explain all of those topics I just explained, the rest is self explanatory. No need for further explanation.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
