Some say love is a burning thing
That it makes a fiery ring
Oh, but I know love as a fading thing
Just as fickle as a feather in a stream
See, honey, I saw love
You see it came to me
It put its face up to my face so I could see
Yeah, then I saw love disfigure me
Into something I am not recognizing

See the cage, it called, I said, "Come on in"
I will not open myself up this way again
And lay my face to the soil, and all my teeth to the sand
I will not lay like this for days now upon end
You will not see me fall, nor see me struggle to stand
To be acknowledged by some touch from his gnarled hands
You see the cage it called, I said, "Come on in"
I will not open myself this way again

You see the moon is bright in that treetop night
I see the shadows that we cast in the cold clean light
Now my feet are gold and my heart is white
And we race out on the desert plains all night
See, honey, I am not some broken thing
I do not lay in the dark waiting for thee
Now my heart is gold, my feet are light
And I'm racing out on the desert plains all night

So some say love is a burning thing
That it makes a fiery ring
Oh, but I know love as a caging thing
Just a killer come to call from some awful dream
Ah, and all you folks, you come to see
You just stand there in the glass looking at me
But my heart is wild, and my bones are steel
And I could kill you with my bare hands if I was free

This song found me so has been chosen as our first dance at my wedding next week! Many have mentioned the poignant yet sorrowful nod to Jonny Cash' Ring of Fire yet nobody has noted the slightly more subtle reference to Nightmare on Elm st. I think Freddy Krueger was included as a reference because love is as essential to life as sleep. Yet the concept of being fearful of sleep for being murdered in the dreamworld is aligned with the fear to love wholeheartedly and accept love from another. I am with sabiii and nadolsw (to some extent) on the sentiment of the song being a love learning curve, a metamorphic life experience led imagery of what this guy went through and what it means to love and hate simultaneously. The other heavily swaying significance is that it sounds suspiciously like U2 with or without you. Love peace and happiness to all x

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
