Girl, it should be me
Driving to your house
Knocking on your door
Kissing you on the mouth
Holding on your hand
Dancing in the dark
'Cause I was the only one who loved you from the start

But now when I see you with him it
Tears my world apart

Because,
I've been waiting
All this time to finally say it
But now I see your heart's been taken
And nothing could be worse
Baby, I loved you first
Had my chances
Could've been where he is standing
That's what hurts the most
Girl, I came so close
But now you'll never know
Baby, I loved you first (I loved you first, loved you first)

Girl, it should be me
Calling on your phone
Saying you're the one, and that I'll never let you go
I never understood, what love was really like,
But I felt it for the first time looking in your eyes
But now when I see you with him
My whole world falls apart

Because,
I've been waiting
All this time to finally say it
But now I see your heart's been taken
And nothing could be worse
Baby, I loved you first
Had my chances
Could've been where he is standing
That's what hurts the most
Girl, I came so close
But now you'll never know
Baby, I loved you first

The first touch
The first kiss
First girl to make me feel like this
Heartbreak
It's killing me
I loved you first, why can't you see?

I've been waiting all this time to finally say it
But now I see your heart's been taken
And nothing could be worse
Baby, I loved you first

Had my chances
Could've been where he is standing
That's what hurts the most
Girl, I came so close
But now you'll never know
Baby, I loved you first

Baby, I loved you first
Baby, I loved you first
Oh, yeah
Baby, I loved you first

    My Interpretation

I love this song, not only because it's great and I luv 1D, but because I can relate to most of these lyrics.

"Girl, it should be me Driving to your house Knocking on your door Kissing you on the mouth Holding on your hand Dancing in the dark 'Cause I was the only one who loved you from the start"

So the way I see it is that he thinks that he should be the one knocking on her door, holding and kissing her and dancing with her, maybe at their prom.

"But now when I see you with him it Tears my world apart "

That sucks. Now she's with another guy and it's unbearable to see.

"I've been waiting All this time to finally say it But now I see your heart's been taken And nothing could be worse Baby, I loved you first. Had my chances Could've been where he is standing That's what hurts the most, Girl, I came so close But now you'll never know Baby, I loved you first "

Yeah, I know this one. He waited so long to tell her how her how he feels but it's too late, she #TeamTaken. He loved her first though but never said it. He had his chances, "could've been where he is standing ". Now she'll never know how he felt.

"Girl, it should be me Calling on your phone Saying you're the one, and that I'll never let you go I never understood, what love was really like, But I felt it for the first time looking in your eyes "

Now he's saying it should be him calling her and telling her he'd be with her forever. The next two lines are some of my favorite, he felt true love the very first time he looked into her eyes, that's exactly how I felt when I looked into the girl I like's eyes.

"But now when I see you with him My whole world falls apart "

I feel like this part is a little different than above. I think that whenever he sees them he thinks of all of the second verse and how it should be him with her.

    Chorus

"The first touch The first kiss First girl to make me feel like this Heartbreak It's killing me I loved you first, why can't you see?"

First kiss, this part I can't relate to as the girl I'm into never gave me that much. Anyways, this girl did and was his first true love. Now that she has another man in her life the heartbreak of the being with her is killing him and he can't understand why she doesn't love him back. Sounds familiar.

    Chorus

It's a really bad spot to be in, and this song, I can really relate to it and some other 1D songs.

    General Comment

There's a theory that it's about Harry and Louis ("Larry Stylinson"). They loved each other first, and they want to be the one to take the other one out on dates etc. but they can't so somebody else has taken their spot.

    My Interpretation

It's saying, in my opinion, that it should be him that she's going out with, and not who she's actually going out with. He's loved her for so long, and she never knew. He's frustrated with himself because he had his chances, but never told her. He's upset because that could have been him that she's with,

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
