The bloody angle, the symmetry
Your cheap adhesive isn't holding me
My mouth is a gun I can shoot, I can show you the truth
And I don't need a reason to lie to you

No pun intended, no punishment
If I offended you, you needed it
Ideas are the bombs in your mind, a fissure in time
If you don't have a weapon you can't have mine

I can bleed if I want to bleed
I can fail if I feel the need
This face is my last confession
This life, it feels like a prison

Oh, I'm not afraid
I'm giving into grievances again
You're looking at an absolute zero
I'm not the devil but I won't be your hero

The catatonic, the sacrilege
Your primadonnas are a privilege
My god has a need to react, it's as simple as that
It's better just to settle than face the facts

I can bleed if I want to bleed
I can fail if I feel the need
This face is my last confession
This life, it feels like a prison

Oh, I'm not afraid
I'm giving into grievances again
You're looking at an absolute zero
I'm not the devil but I won't be your hero

One thing that I can't stand
Is when the minutes fight the second hand
I'll waste a lifetime's worth
Just to cling to one more day

No fucking quarter, no premiums
The world is stuck in delirium
Man is a four-letter word, it's really absurd
The hate isn't fake, it's just inferred

Oh, I'm not afraid
I'm giving into grievances again
I'm down to absolute zero
Another zealot with the weight of the fucking world

Oh, I'm not afraid
And I will let you down as I hold you in
You're looking at an absolute zero
I'm not the devil but I won't be your hero

    My Interpretation

There's nothing extremely hide in this song. 'Absolute Zero' is a reference of been a cold, fuck-off' person that at a certain point stopped caring about something or someone.

"The bloody angle, the symmetry/ Your cheap adhesive isn't holding me / My mouth is a gun I can shoot, I can show you the truth / And I don't need a reason to lie to you"
[(This part says that the fake image from someone isn't convincing anymore, and using words plus arguments he can distinguish lies and make the person see real facts. Soon, there's no more necessity to hide the truth.)]

"No pun intended, no punishment / If I offended you, you needed it / Ideas are the bombs in your mind, a fissure in time / If you don't have a weapon you can't have mine" [(Yea, this verse shows all the cold from that person - If I offended you, that's was because you really deserved it. Again he compare words with weapons, and says like "Well, If you don't give me solid arguments or good perspectives, there's no reason to waste my time giving you my opinions." The fissure in time can mean that someway the truth will give your head a collapse; a higher fact that can change your life.)]

But the part that show us clearly this idea is the main chorus: "Oh, I’m not afraid / I’m giving into grievances again / You’re looking at an absolute zero / I’m not the devil, but I won’t be your hero" [(I am not gonna be a bad person to you, but I can ensure that I'm not gonna be a good person either)].

This is just my interpretation of this amazing song. Sorry 4 my bad english, that's not my primary language. xChernobyl

Thanks LRonnaldHubbs for the correct lyrics. Now for the meaning I get from this song. I think that he is describing his acceptance of his fatalistic mentality in reference to the world.

You are looking at an absolute zero, I'm not your devil but I won't be your hero.

That certain part may (and though I hate when people get on here and turn bad@$$ songs into love songs) be him talking to a girl he wants to talk to, or maybe he is just saying "Hey, I am not gonna be the savior of this earth." plain and simple.

another line: "My God has a need to react." That may be him discussing that his God (creator of the universe) needs to step in and regain order in the world that he created (Stop letting children starve, people suffer, etc.). And since he sees no signs of God stepping in and helping, it furthers his fatalistic mentality to the earth and humanity itself. The verse in the bridge "...why the minutes fight the second hand..." probably refers to how the days are getting longer the more he wants to escape this world (being an absolute zero, he just really wants to die, or run away from consciousness and his life for a little while).

All in all, he sees the world, wants it to get re-motivated to improve, knows it won't, and just accepts it while wishing he could escape because he doesn't have the power to change it himself.

There are other lines in here that could support my opinion. Afterall, it is just my opinion. But When I heard this song and saw the lyrics, it was saying everything that I was feeling on the inside. I don't know the band too well, but the meaning to me was pretty deep and straight to the chase. Depressing but motivating song.

    Lyric Correction

Ugh, so many errors and there's no excuse for it. Here are the correct lyrics right from Stone Sour's website:

Actually guys, your over thinking it.The four letter word is shit. I get this cause if you listen to Slipknot attall (Corey's other band) you'll know that they have a song called "People = Shit" so if "man" is "People" and "People" is "Shit" then "Man is Shit". So really he's just referencing People=Shit which i find pretty funny :D

So this song is actually part of a concept album and a comic series that Corey Taylor made. This is introducing the protagonist of the story he deals largely with the Duality (good and evil) of his own character. So this is him declaring he isn't a good guy or a bad guy. As for the "Man is a four letter word" part SPOILERS the character in the comic is named the Human. He in the song claims to be an Absolute Zero, There in Man is a four letter word and that word is Zero.

If anyone can tell me what "man is a four letter word, it's really absurd. The hate isn't fake, it's just inferred." means, I would greatly appreciate it. I have sat here for 17 days trying to figure it out. Please help me.

    Song Fact

Good God I wish Joshua Roberts had stabbed my eye out 13 years ago I wouldn\'t have been a pedophile anymore and would have found love and been a zealot with no weight on my shoulders no burdens and I would\'ve got all the premiums there would\'ve been no more hate I would\'ve given my love to everybody everywhere and actually of changed the world for the better and ran for president of the world with CMFT and won by landslide

If you watch the video, the two domes the man is meditating and getting his groove on seem to be a hint at the VDome (look it up). I always thought that was rather strange.

"One thing that I can't stand Is when the minutes fight the second hand I'll waste a lifetime's worth Just to cling to one more day"

I'm dyscalculic, and I have trouble reading clocks because of that fact. It's almost like the composer may or may not be dyscalculic himself. I don't know.

I somewhat agree with xChernobyl; it's a reference to a cold person; absolute zero being as cold as you can get. It's all of the metaphysical references in the song that have always thrown me off. Our subject is obviously a spiritual person. You can also find occult a few occult references.

"He stands on the virgin rock of Pyrrhonic-Zoroastrianism, which unlike the Hindu world-conception, stands on neither Elephant nor Tortoise, but on the Absolute Zero of the metaphysical Qabalists." - John Fuller, talking about Aleister Crowley

he feels that he cannot relate to anyone in the world with all of mans various reasons for letting him down.

he feels he knows better how to exist, than all the worthless people, without being anything particularly special himself.

he has become disillusioned with the abject retardedness of humanity in general, he knows they are too dumb to understand basic obvious concepts grounded in reality so he is not going to bother wasting his time on them.

he is closer to atheist than religious, he knows that a god who doesn't react doesn't exist.

he is not suicidal, as indicated by the seconds fighting the second hand. He would give a lifetime for one more day not passing fleetingly fast without any moral substance or worth to it. any accompanying video indication of a choice to end his life just means he has thought about how much easier it would be to just leave this shitheap of low intelligence than having to bear it.

he is not a devil, he doesn't go around messing people around and doing selfish nonsensical atrocities but he is not willing to swim against the current of bullshit and act like a prophet for the truth because he knows that he alone would be futile and he hasn't got any significant weight behind him to effect change for the better.

in summary, he is saying that nearly all of the world is populated by idiots who ultimately make life difficult when it wouldn't otherwise be that way with just a few brain cells kicking around and a lot less selfish enactment with or without the ridiculous beliefs in various gods that only provide additional contempt for each persons fellow man.

he would prefer to see the glory of the world as the lone survivor in a dystopian age

I have to say that I was fully expecting this album to be a huge, steaming pile of dog shit, but I am very surprised that it's actually good. Corey actually wrote some lyrics that weren't full of cheese and sap. Which has been the case in my opinion, since the stone sour self titled album. Now that I think about it, it's amazing that I even listen to stone sour and slipknot anymore. I guess that's just the amazingness that is Corey Taylor. He can make complete shit and I'll still buy it and listen to it. As far as the meaning goes, I really don't give a shit.

Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
