I. Rain of Stars:

Behold the rain of stars - The awakening of darkened skies
Falling from the dark - The symphony of dying lights
Behold the rain of stars - The blazing fire came pouring down
Falling from the dark - And life and death became unbound

Sons of winter and stars - Rise!
Sons of winter and stars - Rise!

Sons of winter and stars! Rise! Rise!
Fly with us through the darkness
Sons of winter and stars! Rise! Rise!
And we shall embrace the stars
And we shall open the doors of time

II. Surrounded by Darkness:

I have awaken the darkness
Taste the fear! Taste the pain!
I am the one who seeks vengeance

Into the darkness we fly
Into the shadows they hide
Into the darkness we fly
They will never survive, they'll die
Oh they will die!

I sacrifice everything, just for one moment
I throw away everything that matters to me the most

I'm flying through the darkness
The fire casts a shadow on me
I tear a part of my heart for creation of dimensions
And we fly beyond the restless shadows
We fly beyond the stars
We fly beyond the birth of the worlds

So old I've become - Thousand years staring into emptiness
But now I realize - That it was just an illusion
All this time I thought it was you that would save the sun
Oh rain comes and washes the hate away
Now I am at the crossroads with questions
Somewhere, someday I will find what I am here for
Who am I?

III. Journey Inside a Dream:

I'm wondering now where will you take me
From the horizon the light comes alive
Into the mountains high we set our way
Will we find our way in this long winter night
I see the land of fading sun and rising mountains
And I finally feel that I've found my home
But oh, it feels so cold when my dreams wither in fragments of time...
Revealing that this land will die...

Before the winds so cold
The world was shattered in the fragments of time
Before the autumn rains
The coldness will again awake

Falling snow, so soft and cold
Dying moon cast down so weak
Frozen lake, the dancing spirits
Calling me to join in the cosmic dream
The silence is tempting me now...

IV. Sons of Winter and Stars:

We are the Sons of Winter and Stars
We've come from a far beyond time
Forever the fire burns in our hearts
Our world shall never die
In the arms of the wind we ride till dawn
As the waves of the ocean grind so strong
We wander in the stars until we're gone
Our fate is sealed by eternal sun

We are the Sons of Winter and Stars
We've come from a far beyond time
Forever the fire burns in our hearts
Our world shall never die
In the arms of the wind we ride till dawn
As the waves of the ocean grind so strong
We wander in the stars until we're gone
Our fate is sealed by eternal sun

Until we fade away - Fate will find its way
Until we drift into the dark
It's not too late to find a way - Fate will find its way
And fly in cold embrace of stars

Mysteries of time
Unfolding in cosmic dreams
Leaving life and death meaningless
Before the revelation of infinity

Embrace the stars!!!!!

The energy flows in me like a river of stars
I'm surrounded by the circle of fire, but eternal ice has frozen my heart
I'm lost in the pathways of time
But now the time has come for us!

We are the Sons of Winter and Stars
We've come from a far beyond time
Forever the fire burns in our hearts
Our world shall never die
In the arms of the wind we ride till dawn
As the waves of the ocean grind so strong
We wander in the stars until we're gone
Our fate is sealed by eternal sun

We are the Sons of Winter and Stars!
We are the Sons of Winter and Stars!!!

    My Interpretation

I haven't analysed the whole song yet so forgive me if this doesn't fit every line, but I have an interpretation for the following segment. Tell me what you think.

    --

"So old I've become (Thousand years staring into emptiness) But now I realize (That it was just an illusion) All this time I thought it was you that would save the sun Oh rain comes and washes the hate away Now I am at the crossroads with questions Somewhere, someday I will find what I am here for Who am I?

I'm wondering now where will you take me From the horizon the light comes alive Into the mountains high we set our way Will we find our way in this long winter night I see the land of fading sun and rising mountains And I finally feel that I've found my home But oh, it feels so cold when my dreams wither in fragments of time... Revealing that this land will die..."

To me, this segment represents chasing new ambitions and eventually losing interest "So old i've become but now i realise all this time i thought it was you who would save the sun". The "sun" in this line is something that brings warmth and light, two common motifs in Wintersun songs that (in my opinion) represent happiness. "You" I believe is referring not necessarily to a person but to a concept, maybe a hobby or an interest. Something that once brought the speaker happiness. Over time they have realised that this object does not actually give them any permanent gratification. "The rain comes and washes the hate away" shows the full cycle of their growth in relation to this object. They loved it, they realised it couldn't "Save the sun", and hated it, but then the "rain" (not 100% sure what the symbolism is here but its safe to say its some sort of realisation, maybe the rain blocking out the sun symbolising depression?) came and washed the hate away, they realised it never actually promised them that overarching happiness they desired in the first place. "Now i am at the crossroads with questions. Somewhere, someday I will find what I'm here for. Who am I." Is a fairly transparent line, just serving to clarify the previous ones.

The next verse I feel tells of the speaker, now armed with a better understanding, finding something new in their life "I'm wondering now where will you take me" Again "you" being something that brings them happiness. The speaker wonders aloud how their life will change with the introduction of this new object. "From the horizon the light comes alive" I believe represents them coming back from their depression (The horizon being the line between night and dark, or happiness and sadness) and dreaming of the potentials of this new obsession of theirs "The light comes alive" being the happiness taking on its own life and weaving ideas of where things could go. "Into the mountains high we set our way, will we find our way in this long winter night?" The speaker hopes and dreams that through this new aspect/object/obsession in their life that they might be able to find some greater happiness. "I see the land of fading sun and rising mountains and i finally feel that i've found my home" The speaker recognises in this line that the hope they saw may not have been permanent as they had hoped for as the "fading sun" shows that while it still brings them joy, it won't do so forever. Even so, they felt in this situation that they belonged here, that this part of their life, "this land", was the meaning they had been seeking all this time. "But oh it feels so cold when my dreams wither in the fragments of time, revealing that this land will die" Represents them learning from the past and solemnly accepting that their obsession "This land" will not sustain them forever, and that they must move on from it. "But oh it feels so cold when my dreams wither in the fragments of time" shows how despite the fact they know how "this land" will die and stop bringing them happiness, its still a crushing feeling to watch as all the dreams from earlier in the verse start to wither away and stop seeming so attainable.

In my opinion, this section represents the speaker's experience in going through a hedonic treadmill, where changes to their life they thought would bring them permanent happiness ended up only being temporary, and the start to their journey to not only understand this phenomenon, but also to be able to prevent it setting them back into depression.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
