Reach me with halos
Clean me with all
Your good intent
Burn me with fear
So I won't question
Or end this relationship
Well I'm filled with more than regret
I have chose to ignore it
Or face the feeling again
My time is wasted
I followed your story
I can't do your math
You won't stand before me
Or behind my back
My eyes have
Been blurry
My family attacked
I can't stand before you and won't take this back
(won't take this back)

Show me
You're a hero
Show me your life
Makes perfect sense
Judge me for years
So I'm infected
By questions of innocence
Well I'm filled with more than regret I have chose to ignore it
Or face the feeling again
My time is wasted
I followed your story
I can't do your math
You won't stand before me
Or behind my back
My eyes have
Been blurry
My family attacked
I can't stand before you and won't take this back
(won't take this back)

I followed your story
I can't do your math
You won't stand before me
Or behind my back
My eyes have
Been blurry
My family attacked
I can't stand before you and won't take this back
I followed your story
I can't do your math
You won't stand before me
Or behind my back
My eyes have
Been blurry
My family attacked
I can't stand before you and won't take this back
(won't take this back)

    My Interpretation

I think there are always different ways that a song can be interpreted based on ones own experiences in life. Every song can have different meanings to different people. This is one of my Favorite Evan's Blue's songs to date. Very powerful and thought provoking.

I can see Halo being interpreted as a bad relationship. Any toxic relationship where there has been extreme push and pull going on. Deflection and grand standing.. and the innocent party has had enough of the damage.

But, on a deeper level of interpretation, while discussing the song... I came upon another possible interpretation. Religion. Frustration with unanswered questions with doctrine, behaviors of the church. Feeling as if all the years spent believing are wasted, because now nothing adds up. The veil is lifted. Once the veil is lifted, there is no going back. Blinders can't be put back on. (Religion is not the same for me as being spiritual or believing in God, so this is not about being atheist, or anti god or anything like that. I grew up in the church, a ministers daughter, who knows all too well what its like to have the veil lifted.)

Reach me with Halos (reach me with promises of righteousness) Clean me with all Your good intent (wash away my sins with YOUR actions. YOU save me) Burn me with fear So I won't question Or end this relationship (Don't leave, and don't ask question or you'll burn in hell) Well I'm filled with more than regret I have chose to ignore it Or face the feeling again (frustration..I don't like this but I don't know what to do.) My time is wasted (MY TIME IS WASTED!!! Eyes wide open, Angry) I followed your story (I listened to your teachings, Church doctrine) I can't do your math (It no longer adds up) You won't stand before me (You won't show your self) Or behind my back (and you don't have my back) My eyes have Been blurry (I have not been able to see clearly) My family attacked (I think this means exactly what it says, my family has been attacked.) I can't stand before you and won't take this back ( I can't show myself to you... Excommunicated? I have no regrets, I won't change it) (won't take this back)

Show me You're a hero Show me your life Makes perfect sense (I want to believe, show me!) Judge me for years (judge lest you be judged?) So I'm infected By questions of innocence (I have questions that will not let me be, born of the judgement) Well I'm filled with more than regret I have chose to ignore it Or face the feeling again (frustration....I don't like this but I don't know what to do.) My time is wasted (again... time is wasted this line is perfect) I followed your story (I listened to your teachings, church doctrine) I can't do your math (doesn't add up) You won't stand before me (won't show yourself, answer my questions) Or behind my back (won't back me up either) My eyes have Been blurry (Haven't been seeing clearly) My family attacked (my family is under attack) I can't stand before you and won't take this back (can't show myself before you, and I'm not changing my mind)... (still think a possible excommunication) (won't take this back)

I followed your story I can't do your math You won't stand before me Or behind my back My eyes have Been blurry My family attacked I can't stand before you and won't take this back I followed your story I can't do your math You won't stand before me Or behind my back My eyes have Been blurry My family attacked I can't stand before you and won't take this back (won't take this back)

So, there ya have! probably not going to be how most would interpret the song, but I thought it would be cool to add it to the pool of interpretations and see what happens. Like I said, every song can have many different interpretations based on the experiences we filter them through. Just hope y'all had fun reading this one. :)

    My Interpretation

Wow, can't believe no one's commented on this yet. I usually don't post interpretations, but here it goes.

I think the overall song meaning has to do with someone getting out of an unhappy relationship. In the first verse, he says things like 'clean me with all your good intent', and 'burn me with fear so I won't question or end this relationship' to show that whoever he is with keeps persuading him to stay in it, even though he doesn't want to and is getting taken advantage of.

In the chorus, he says 'I followed your story I can't do your math' meaning he knows what is going on in her life, but can't make their decisions for her. He says 'you won't stand before me or behind my back' meaning she cannot own up to anything and won't support him. As far as 'my family attacked' goes, I would like to think there's some other meaning other than literal one, but cannot put my finger on it. And the last line 'I can't stand before you and won't take this back' I believe shows he is finally ready to call it quits with her, and isn't changing his mind.

In the second verse, he basically says go ahead and talk yourself up, but it won't matter, with lines like 'Show me you're a hero. Show me your life makes perfect sense'. And he know's she'll say anything to get him to stay, 'Judge me for years so I'm infected by questions of innocence'. And then he says 'I'm filled with more than regret I have chose to ignore it or face the feeling again. My time is wasted' meaning he is choosing to move on without her and ignore the feelings of regret, so he doesn't waste anymore of his time with her.

Anyway, that's my interpretation. I'd love to hear what other people think too. Great song, I love the direction Evans Blue is moving.

This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
