Here I am waiting, I'll have to leave soon
Why am I holding on?
We knew this day would come, we knew it all along
How did it come so fast?
This is our last night but it's late
And I'm trying not to sleep
'Cause I know, when I wake
I will have to slip away
And when the daylight comes I'll have to go
But tonight I'm gonna hold you so close
'Cause in the daylight we'll be on our own
But tonight I need to hold you so close
Ooh whoa, ooh whoa, ooh whoa
Ooh whoa, ooh whoa, ooh whoa
Here I am staring at your perfection
In my arms, so beautiful
The sky is getting bright, the stars are burning out
Somebody slow it down
This is way too hard
'Cause I know, when the sun comes up
I will leave, this is my last glance
That will soon be memory
And when the daylight comes I'll have to go
But tonight I'm gonna hold you so close
'Cause in the daylight we'll be on our own
But tonight I need to hold you so close
Ooh whoa, ooh whoa, ooh whoa
Ooh whoa, ooh whoa, ooh whoa
I never wanted to stop
Because I don't wanna start all over, start all over
I was afraid of the dark
But now it's all that I want, all that I want, all that I want
And when the daylight comes I'll have to go
But tonight I'm gonna hold you so close
'Cause in the daylight we'll be on our own
But tonight I need to hold you so close
And when the daylight comes I'll have to go
But tonight I'm gonna hold you so close
'Cause in the daylight we'll be on our own
But tonight I need to hold you so close
Ooh whoa, ooh whoa, ooh whoa
Ooh whoa, ooh whoa, ooh whoa
Ooh whoa (yeah), ooh whoa (yeah), ooh whoa (yeah)
Ooh whoa (yeah), ooh whoa (yeah), ooh whoa
Why am I holding on?
We knew this day would come, we knew it all along
How did it come so fast?

1st Para
The writer is trying I tell us that soon he is gonna have to move on with his life and accept the changes that are occurring but he doesn't want to accept that even though he knew that nothing lasts forever.
2nd Para/4th Para/6th Para/7th Para (They're all the same)
Now the writer is beginning to accept that eventually he'll have to let o but at the same time he also wants to make the most of the present and live life to the fullest.
3rd Para
Again he is watching everyone around him change and knows that soon everything and everyone will be different that is why he is taking in everything and keeping it safe in his memories.
5th Para
The writer is telling us that earlier he wanted things to change because he wasn't very happy with the situation but now all he wants is the 'dark' because the dark means that the 'daylight' which is the future stays away.
Conclusion
No matter what the writer wants the daylight is inevitable, no matter what it will always come around eventually which signifies that life keeps going on no matter what and we just need to accept it.

Well, her granny is very sick and she had told me about a month ago that she had to go back to Lithuania for 2 weeks. I didnt think this would be too bad, but eventually time caught up with us and now she is away.
Our last night together was the most amazing day of my life. We went for a walk and sat under the stars together. We talked about our future and this moment was the best in my life.
I feel that this song relates to me as when the daylight came (the next day) she left for 2 weeks. That night I held her so close. And i have been listening to this song for hours every day.
This song is about losing a loved one. It may be for an hour, for a month, or forever. Either way it is about losing that special someone we love. And it is hard.
