Ooh, ooh ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ooh ooh
You and I go hard at each other like we're going to war
You and I go rough, we keep throwing things and slamming the door
You and I get so damn dysfunctional, we start keeping score
You and I get sick, yeah I know that we can't do this no more
But baby there you go again, there you go again, making me love you
Yeah I stopped using my head, using my head, let it all go
Got you stuck on my body, on my body like a tattoo
And now I'm feeling stupid, feeling stupid crawling back to you
So I cross my heart and I hope to die
That I'll only stay with you one more night
And I know I said it a million times
But I'll only stay with you one more night
Try to tell you no but my body keeps on telling you yes
Try to tell you stop but your lipstick got me so out of breath
I'll be waking up in the morning probably hating myself
And I'll be waking up feeling satisfied but guilty as hell
But baby there you go again, there you go again, making me love you
And I stopped using my head, using my head, let it all go
Got you stuck on my body, on my body like a tattoo
And now I'm feeling stupid, feeling stupid crawling back to you
So I cross my heart and I hope to die
That I'll only stay with you one more night
And I know I said it a million times
But I'll only stay with you one more night
Yeah baby give me one more night
Yeah baby give me one more night
Yeah baby give me one more night
Baby there you go again, there you go again, making me love you
And I stopped using my head, using my head, let it all go
Got you stuck on my body, on my body like a tattoo
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
So I cross my heart and I hope to die
That I'll only stay with you one more night
And I know I said it a million times
But I'll only stay with you one more night
(Yeah baby give me one more night)
So I cross my heart and I hope to die
That I'll only stay with you one more night
And I know I said it a million times
But I'll only stay with you one more night
You and I go hard at each other like we're going to war

{You and I go hard at each other like we're going to war
You and I go rough, we keep throwing things and slamming the door
You and I get so damn dysfunctional, we start keeping score
You and I get sick, yeah I know that we can't do this no more}
They keep on fighting and fighting, so much that they start to keep score, the hatred is getting so bad that he KNOWS that soon he's going to have to cut his losses and leave
{But baby there you go again, there you go again, making me love you
Yeah I stopped using my head, using my head, let it all go
Got you stuck on my body, on my body like a tattoo
And now I'm feeling stupid, feeling stupid coming back to you}
And just when he's about to leave, bag at the door, she seduces him, clinging to him, begging and bribing him with sex and the like to at least stay one more night
{So I cross my heart and I hope to die
That I'll only stay with you one more night
And I know I said it a million times
But I'll only stay with you one more night}
He wants to leave but doesn't as well, his heads are contradicting each other but the bottom one wins, and the process continues, they fight, he tries to leave, and she stops him and has him stay one more night, his mind says no but his instincts are SCREAMING yes, It's like an abusive relationship but with the female being dominant.
This is just my opinion, sorry if othes disagree with me.
"Baby there you go again making me love you"...the charm is back on and the victim, "not using my head I let it all go" letting your guard down and allowing the fake charm and love back in.
The "feeling stupid and crawling back to you", because this vicious cycle continues on and on with the narcissist. They are incapable of really loving or feeling and the abused one knows this deep down but they go back any way because they so want to believe that they are loved by their narcissist the same way they love them. Ultimately, they want so badly to have a loving nurturing relationship with the fake persona that the narcissiat puts on, but the fake persona never lasts behind closed doors and they are back and at their "bully" state again.
The narcissist generally appears like the perfect husband or wife to everyone not closely related. And they don't allow co-workers and neighbors to see the bad side in most cases. They lie and blame everything on the one they are abusing. Even making the abused feel responsible for their affairs and everything. They down play their faults and over exaggerate their achievements. While they do the opposite for your faults and achievemnts. They have to be "king of the mountain" at all cost and they truly don't care about anyone else. They are incapable.
It describes a relationship with a Borderline Personality Disordered person perfectly.
If you find yourself relating to this song - get the hell out!
Generally the song is about that feeling when you know you should go away but you've become too involved to do it now. That feeling when you know you should stop but you have just fallen for it and it's not very easy to alter things. But suddenly, the other person got things done in your behalf unannounced.
Looking closely into the lyrics, I think it's some sort of prostitute-client affair, just taken a little too much.
You and I go hard at each other like we're going to war - sex/infidelity maybe?
You and I go rough, we keep throwing things and slamming the door - fight
You and I get so damn dysfunctional, we start keeping score - "cold war" lol
You and I get sick, yeah I know that we can't do this no more - come to terms.
This one is self-explanatory if taken from the above lyrics -- They have sex and then they feel involved and then they think they can hold a grip on things and then they disagree and then they fight and they they take pride and then they agree to be apart, but then he knows it's not what he wants:
"Try to tell you no but my body keeps on telling you yes
Try to tell you stop but your lipstick got me so out of breath
I'll be waking up in the morning probably hating myself
And I'll be waking up feeling satisfied but guilty as hell"
But finally, it is over for her. "But I'll only stay with you one more night."
Anyway, it may also be a boyfriend-girlfriend or husband-wife thing, but the way I see it it's rather sensual and sexual so I'm leaning more on prosti-client kind of affair.
Well, I love it; it's very catchy. And hey, it's Maroon 5 so yeah! I love their music. They say what they say and they don't give a damn about what people have to say. They're sure of themselves. I love them.
Levine penned the song with Texas songwriter Savan Kotecha (One Direction's "What Makes You Beautiful") and it was produced by the Swedish hitmaking duo of Shellback and Max Martin. Shellback also contributed to Maroon 5's previous two singles "Moves Like Jagger" and "Payphone," whilst Martin oversaw the Overexposed album project. It was Gwen Stefani's debut solo album Love. Angel. Music. Baby. that persuaded Levine to get some outside help on the album. He told UK newspaper The Sun: "She's amazing and had that fearless approach to recording with all of the best people in the business. And her record was incredible, because she had the courage to step outside her comfort zone. So we said, 'Why not try something completely different that could totally radicalise the idea of who we are?'
And I think Max Martin is an absolute genius. I took him aside and asked him if he would be executive producer. There aren't many guys out there who can write amazing music but also who people respect enough to allow to be at the helm of the operation."
The song's music video was directed by Peter Berg who is responsible for such films as
The song was Maroon 5's third #1 on the Hot 100 following "Makes Me Wonder" in 2007 and "Moves Like Jagger" in 2011.
An entirely different "One More Night" previously reached the Hot 100 summit. A Phil Collins composition of the same name spent two weeks at #1 in 1985.
