Take me down to the river bend
Take me down to the fighting end
Wash the poison from off my skin
Show me how to be whole again

Fly me up on a silver wing
Past the black where the sirens sing
Warm me up in a nova's glow
And drop me down to the dream below

'Cause I'm only a crack in this castle of glass
Hardly anything there for you to see
For you to see

Bring me home in a blinding dream
Through the secrets that I have seen
Wash the sorrow from off my skin
Show me how to be whole again

'Cause I'm only a crack in this castle of glass
Hardly anything there for you to see
For you to see

'Cause I'm only a crack in this castle of glass
Hardly anything else I need to be

'Cause I'm only a crack in this castle of glass
Hardly anything there for you to see
For you to see
For you to see

My InterpretationThis is my favourite song of the album. The imagery was quite moving.

The title: Castle of Glass. Glass breaks easy. Castles are supposed to be strong, to defend the people. This reminds me of illusions; they shatter like brittle glass (also i was watching index(anime) and touma's ability came to mind). Our delusions may be the very things we hold close and took refuge in; our raison d'etre may turn out to be lies.

I guess it is this feeling of trying to separate truth from lies that relate to people: how we have to fight, even against the 'currents' in our mind, to heal our wounds (ironically sometimes from the fray itself).

may i suggest word choices that are not accidental:
'flying' could be along the lines of having a higher purpose/ on a higher plane
'silver wing' refers to planes, eh?
    'sirens' from greek mythology, pretty

General CommentI think the castle of glass symbolizes our way of life and how fragile we are... some of us are capable of changing our fragile world, they may not be noticeable now like a small crack in glass may not be, however slowly they are influencing our ways as to eventually change the way we live, eventually breaking this castle of glass. In today's world of internet and social media, I see all of us as small cracks in the glass which will eventually make a big change in the way we live in - hopefully in a positive manner, taking us to the next level of advancement.

My InterpretationI'll start by giving Linkin Park my appreciation. Without bands like this creating introspective, influential, and unique music, our world would be filled with more Bieber's and Jepsens'.

Many people will attach this song to the Medal of Honor influenced video, but the song was definitely not written with that in mind. I don't think it is about a soldier in the literal sense (but in a metaphorical sense, we are all soldiers).

The lyrics tell me of someone who has been negatively influenced by something external, and something within them has been deeply affected by it. A crack in a castle of glass is a structural weakness, although small, it is a weakness that could threaten the entire structure.

To me, the opening lines set the terms fairly well, "Wash the poison from off my skin, show me how to be whole again."
He wishes to be rejuvenated, cleansed from what has tainted him, and to be full once more.

The second verse is a bit harder for me to interpret, but seems to be regard the person that caused this taint or crack. (this person could also be the singer referring to themself, depending on your interpretation).
Someone offered wonder, security, and/or salvation "fly me up on your silver wing, past the black where the sirens sing"

"Warm me up in the nova's glow" refers to this false hope, a nova is an incredibly destructive force.
"Drop me down to the dream below" - the dream, the illusion, is false, but he asks to be dropped into it, but why?

"Cause I'm only a crack in this castle of glass, hardly anything there for you to see." - Because he is insignificant, small, a tiny crack in an entire castle of glass. A small blemish on a beautiful structure.

The feelings expressed are ones of being insignificant and small, but there's a strange power to it too, perhaps the fact that the castle is made of glass is what proves this. A crack can start small, but with a little pressure it will quickly grow into a much larger one. Perhaps this is the transcendant part of the song, the fact that while this person feels so small and useless, they are in fact a key part to the integrity of the 'castle of glass', which could be a metaphor for a relationship, for society, for life, addiction, you name it.

Linkin Park is a fantastic band, anyone who hates on their music hasn't listened enough. The layering is fantastic. Robot Boy, this song and Burning in the Skies are some of the most powerful songs I've ever had the joy of hearing.
Don't close your mind, let the music free your soul.

My InterpretationThis song seems pretty straightforward as far as a general meaning. The song is about someone who has been through a traumatic experience(s) that has changed him as a person. He is definitely extremely depressed "wash the sorrow from off my skin" and can’t get past the experiences he’s been through "wash the poison from off my skin."

He is a shell of the man he used to be; almost to his breaking point. So the "crack" is referring to his barely there self and "castle of glass" is referring to him being almost at his breaking point. That’s why it’s a castle of glass, it’s very easily broken.

But the "castle" also refers to his desire/hope to want to be back to his old self again. The castle is defending the last of himself that he has left and he is desperately searching for someone/something that will make him his old self/happy again.

My InterpretationA Crack in a Castle of Glass
To me this means something easily missed but very important.
It also says, Wash the poison from my skin, show me how to be whole again.
This could be saying that he had done something wrong and got in trouble but he was only a small part of the big "Wrong doing"

So basically it's saying that someone is a small part of a big picture, but is still very important.
Hope I didn't ramble too much, Great song
    Thanks Linkin Park

General CommentI was surprised when I saw everyone's understanding of the song, cause I had a totally different point of view, I find it as a romantic song.

'Cause I'm only a crack in this castle of glass
Hardly anything there for you to see'

There is a castle of glass, and I am a part of this castle.
I want you to see me and I want to be noticed by you but I'm just a glass, when you look at me, you don't see me, you see through me since i'm a glass.
Now i cracked myself just to become visible, just to be seen by you. That's all i could do but yet, it's still not enough because a small crack is hard to be seen in a huge castle.

Well that's my approach of the song, and I really love this song specially this small part of it.

Song MeaningI didn't get it the first few times because i was lost in the enticing and haunting song. But now that i hear it, it sounds like something someone who has just been back from a war would sing.

My Interpretationeven after i heard the first few stanzas in this song, it gave me chills, and i then knew why. I believe tjphysicist is right, this song is probably about a soldier and the war. I was one also, Army Infantry for 4 years and 1.5 in Iraq, so thats why this song struck a chord with me. its a beautiful song, very meaningful.
