This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere.
In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.
She may contain the urge to run away
But hold her down with soggy clothes and breezeblocks
Citrezene your fever's gripped me again
Never kisses all you ever send are fullstops, la la la la
Do you know where the wilds things go
They go along to take your honey,la la la la
Break down now weep build up breakfast now
Let's eat my love my love love love, la la la la
Muscle to muscle and toe to toe
The fear has gripped me but here I go
My heart sinks as I jump up
Your hand grips hand as my eyes shut
Ahhh ahhh ahhh ah ah, ahhh ahhh ahhh ah ah
Do you know where the wild things go
They go along to take your honey, la la la la
Break down let's sleep build up breakfast now
Let's eat my love my love love love, la la la la
She bruises coughs she splutters pistol shots
But hold her down with soggy clothes and breezeblocks
She's morphine queen of my vaccine my love my love love love, la la la la
Muscle to muscle and toe to toe
The fear has gripped me but here I go
My heart sinks as I jump up
Your hand grips hand as my eyes shut
And ahhh ahhh ahhh ah ah, ahhh ahhh ahhh ah ah
Ahhh ahhh ahhh ah ah, ahhh ahhh ahhh ah ah
She may contain the urge to runaway
But hold her down with soggy clothes and breezeblocks
Germaline disinfect the scene my love my love love love
But please don't go I love you so my lovely
Please don't go, please don't go, I love you so, I love you so
Please don't go, please don't go, I love you so, I love you so
Please break my heart, hey

Please don't go, please don't go, I love you so, I love you so
Please break my heart, ah ha
Please don't go, I'll eat you whole
I love you so, I love you, so I love you so
Please don't go I'll eat you whole
I love you so, I love you so, I love you so, I love you so

Gentle Hour

Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.
Great version of a great song,

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.
No Surprises

Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.
its nice that everyone is taking the video (which is awesome) so literally, but you're entirely missing the point.
this song is not about murder or cannibalism... its about drugs and addiction.
citerzene is an antihistamine its something to sooth an allergy... like the one this poor bloke has to society.
the 2nd verse references morphine "queen of my vaccine" the only thing that works anymore..
the 3rd verse refers to germolene.. which is a cleaning agent... and trying to get out of the cycle of addiction.
its about depression "Break down now weep build up breakfast now Let’s eat my love".. that's his day before he gets his heroin
"The fear has gripped me but here I go My heart sinks as I jump up Your hand grips hand as my eyes shut"
this is fear of his own mortality.. about leaving his own consciousness.. forever one of these days...
this is a dark song.. the video is a great representation with a nice storyline of its own.. its catchy as hell and I like it..
but make no mistake.. this song is about drugs.. just like all the good ones...
he's saying don't do heroin kids.. that shit will kill you.. enough that you'll be begging for a broken heart so you don't have to come back
Please don’t go, I’ll eat you whole I love you so, I love you, so I love you so
I completely agree with this suggestion. This song is definitely about drug addiction. I believe that the reference to 'murder' in the video has more to do with the 'romance' with drugs. How when someone is addicted, they can hold the ones they love as a hostage. I believe the reference to holding her down with soggy clothes and breezeblocks has more to do with the weight of the 'hit' and the intense rapture that follows.

Withdrawals are akin to murder. In order to successfully kick the habit, one must destroy the desire. So the video depicts the murder of the 'habit' , not a jealous woman.

The reason I believe this is the reference to where the wild things are. Where the monsters chanted please don't go, I'll eat you whole. Everything in the woods was fine as long as you 'played by the rules that don't exist' . So the lyric relates to the love affair with a drug (probably heroine) and the desire to kick.

The reference to knowing "where the wild thing go...they go away to take your honey" refers to that hit, and coming off. The wild things go away as the hit dies. They go away to take your honey...or when the hit dies, things get decidedly sour.

I don't know, it's just my guess. I LOVE this song though, and it is DARK, regardless of what it actually turns out to be about!

While this is definitely a valid interpretation, I think this is much more of a stretch than a human relationship interpretation. Some of the things you've mentioned do fit with the drug idea, but they also fit just as well with the relationship idea. It's common for people to assume drugs are the meaning of a song when the song seems abstract, but this is actually not the case most of the time, despite what many people seem to think.
