I saw you from our window,
I let you crawl inside.

Your face became a shadow,
Your voice became my kind.

Oh, what is left?
I take what I can get, and lack of all around

What is left?
Some words that I forget, and more I regret.

I came here alone, I thought you'd gone,
I left you bones at the end of the road

I came here alone, the long way home,
I left you in bones at the end of the road.

I'm trying to evade you,
I'm trying to return.

One starry night I'll take you,
Down the barrel of my gun.

Oh, what is left?
I'll take what I can get, and lack of all around

What is left?
Some words that I forget, and more I regret.

I came here alone, I thought you'd gone,
I left you bones at the end of the road

I came here alone, the long way home,
I left you in bones, at the end of the road.

I came here alone, I thought you'd gone,
I left you in bones at the end of the road.

I came here alone, the long way home,
I left you in bones, at the end of the road.

I came here alone, I thought you'd gone,
I left you in bones at the end of the road

I came here alone, the long way home,
I left you in bones, at the end of the road.

    My Interpretation

I think this song is about a sin something that started as a simple temptation that he allowed himself to be overtaken by because he figured ohhh. I'll do it once then never again or something similar we all think when trapped in a sin we can't seem to break it's the "Just one more" mindset

"I saw you from my window/I let you crawl inside"

The sin them overtook his life "Your face became my shadow/ your voice became my guide" He lives and dies by this sin whatever it is

"Oh what is left? I'll take what I can get and black out all the rest"

I'm not really sure what this line means I kinda think it could be him driving away everyone by his behavior and conduct from the onset of the sin. So he has nothing left but this since so he must take what he can get and isolate himself from the world... just him..... just his sin to cope with the world around him. The more I think of what it might mean the more I think it may be about an addiction as well

"Some words that I forget and more I regret" The promises he made to stop living in the sin but every time the sin presents itself his word seems to slip his mind and the more he regrets most likely being the things he's said in heated moments and pushed loved ones away as a result of them caring about him and wanting to help him out of the darkness of his sin

"I cam here alone a lonely heart I thought you'd gone/ I left you in bones at the end of the road" this is that phase where people are too embarrassed of their sin or they feel they've pushed everyone away and they have to break away on their own so they try to clean themselves up but there's that little splotch of dirt on their back they can't reach and it just grows back and before they know it they've fallen back into the trap again

"I'm trying to evade you, I'm trying to be kind"

He doesn't feel a desire to outright deal with the root cause of his sin so he just tries to ignore it and hope it goes away

"One Solemn night i'll take you down the barrel of my gun"

there comes a point where he just says "You know what. I'm not gonna let this sin control me anymore and if it wants to continue to control my life it can eat lead(or in this case the healing only Jesus provides)

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
