I think he has done something and now is in trouble. He knows that what he did was wrong and he doesnt know how to get out of it. Hes asking a friend or someone for help to help guide him out of the mess hes in

I think it's about a girl leaving him, and she was the love of his life, so he got really sad and pretty much depressed, and she's the only one that can bring him back to happiness.

This is just my idea -

He fell in love with a girl, roughly two years ago. Both of them suffer depression, but she likes to surround herself with thoughts that they're going to be okay. She believes if she thinks this enough it'll come true. But he's more of a realist. He knows they're falling apart. He knows she's slipping away. He's hurting her severely "Let me in again," "I'll be who I was then,". And she leaves him. It kills her, because oh his Darling Doll still loves him. And secretly, he's always loved her. Now his Light - (When light becomes absent, there is darkness - hence (Lead Me Out Of The Dark) has left him, he's more depressed than before (A fragile state of mind I can't quite survive) And two years pass by. She's guarded, he hurt her. He's grown up, and he knows he still needs her. So in this song he's begging for her. He's looking for his Light again. (I'm lost, please help me find my place)

In the song, towards the end, you can hear rain in the background. This represents the tears falling, the depression the two of them have endured.

To remind you, this is only my thought of the song meaning. Just a tragic love story.

Im saying a flashlight but i could be wrong.. he has forgotten to change the batteries and now that he needs the flashlight the battery fuel has gone dead.. hes begging for the flashlight to keep going but he hasnt changed the batteries in 2years... and he needs the flashlight to lead him out of the dark.. hes promissing that hell never forget to change them again.. thats my theory.. dont get mad..

Sad song. I agree it's about lost love. He wronged her and now he'll do anything to fix it because he still loves her. And the only way to escape his darkness is if she saves him or if he ends his life.

(my interpretation may swayed because of how i personally relate to song) i believe it is simply a plea for help from someone who is in a dark place and feels that only the other person can bring them out of this dark place. The first person has made mistakes and regrets what they have done and realize that they are the one at fault but just want another chance, this song has always great persona significance to me because of personal experience even the phrase "it's been a long two years" is the right time table
