I woke up to a voice
Who said I had been dreaming
And I missed, I missed everything
I missed everything

Oh heaven, please help me
Help me from falling back again
In hibernation
A century of loneliness

So I stay at home
In my own world
And I kiss it all goodbye
Life never seemed so elegant
And so trite, and so trite

No love, no loss
There's only air
I feel no pain
There's only here

But oh, it shall be the end
Of endless sleep
I must stay awake

I only want to hear
And see what I see
Why is this all that I can hold in my hands?
All these phrases and voices buried in snow

This song, for me, is about someone who wants to change and find love but cannot bring themselves to get out there and actually change. It's quite sad how people would rather live "comfortably" than actually face their fears and live and truly love another person. They would rather not look at themselves and "stay at home" and "kiss it all goodbye" and miss out on life. All they can have and hold is their troubled past which has long since passed and been frozen like snow. They need to keep living, however, and cannot keep sleeping, so they go about life as normal, only to wake up in the middle of the night to voices telling them their happiness is only a sweet dream and missed opportunities. They don't want to fall back into their depression so they ignore the voices. A very sad but true to life song.

Some of the lyrics here are also wrong. I can't figure out what she is really saying in some parts.

    I think its:

So I stay at home In my own right And I kiss it all goodbye Life never seemed so elegant And so tried, and so tried

No love, no loss There's only air I feel no pain There's only here

She also does not say "from drowning in this", but I cannot make out what she is saying for the life of me.

This and troubled waters are the two best on the album.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer

In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
