Come on now you're good friends are here waiting this one out
You've gotta come back down
You've gotta come back down
Look around you you're the only one dragging this out

You've gotta come back down
You've gotta come back down
All of your wallowing is unbecoming
All of your wallowing is unbecoming

You've gotta take it on your own from here
It's getting pathetic and I'm almost done here
You've gotta take it on your own from here
It's getting pathetic and I'm almost done here

What you set out to kill off has been gone some time now
You've gotta come back down
You've gotta come back down
Head out any further and you might just forget how

You've gotta come back down
You've gotta come back down
All of your wallowing is unbecoming
All of your wallowing is unbecoming

You gotta take it on your own from here
It's getting pathetic and I'm almost done here
You've gotta take it on your own from here
It's getting pathetic and I'm almost done here

All of your wallowing is unbecoming.
All of your wallowing is unbecoming
You've gotta take it on your own from here
It's getting pathetic and I'm almost done here

You've gotta take it on your own from here
It's getting pathetic and I'm almost done here
You've gotta take it on your own from here
Come back down

You've gotta come back down
You've gotta come back
You've gotta come back down
You've gotta come back down

You've gotta come back down
You've gotta come back down.

    My Interpretation

It's weird, part of this song reminds me of myself and part of it reminds me of my brothers. It reminds me of myself because sometimes I think that I make a big deal out of little things and put myself in a bad mood. I don't outwardly show it, but I am somewhat depressed and sometimes I do feel pathetic like I have nothing to be upset about but I can't be happy.

It reminds me of my brothers because every time they say "you've got to come back down" I think of how much they smoke and how it affects their lives. They're always high so it's like they're in another world. But all their friends and family are here and it's like they don't want to come back down and be how they used to be before MJ. They're not negative or anything, but I do feel like they have a lot of excuses for everything that they should be doing but aren't for some reason. It's like 'stop lying and blaming other people for your problems and come back down already'. Idk.

Anyway, to me this song is about a pessimist that won't come back to reality. He/ she probably thinks that nothing in the world is his/ her fault and probably depends on other people for everything though they are completely able to do it themselves. It is about a friend who has become completely lazy, irresponsible, and dependent because of substance abuse. I think. I really do like this song, though.

    My Interpretation

I think this song is about someone who lost someone, and their friend is trying to help them through it, however this person (who lost the person) just can't get over whoever they loved that died. I also think the song could be about someone who's lover broke up with them and their struggling to get over their love.

Come on now you're good friends are here waiting this one out (the friend who is helping with the loss)

You've gotta come back down (from their depression, or their thoughts)

Look around you you're the only one dragging this out (with the relationship idea this would be about the lover, for he/she would be dragging out what ever is left of their relationship, however with the loss of a loved one, it would be similar, with the person dragging out the memory of the person, and carrying or dragging the baggage of the person's memory around with them everywhere, and instead of remembering the happy times they would just stay attached to the sadness. )

It's getting pathetic and I'm almost done here (the friend talking about the main character, he/she is 'almost done here' because they believe that the main character believes that they no longer needs help from them.

What you set out to kill off has been gone some time now (either revenge or what was left of the relationship)

Head out any further and you might just forget how (again with the revenge that they may want)

Anyways but that is just my interpretation of the song.

    My Interpretation

A word that sticks out to me is "wallowing" which means indulging in something pleasurable. I think that it is about someone who is not understanding a sad situation the way it deserves to be interpreted. The repetition of the phrase "Come Back Down" makes me think that this is because someone can't keep a level head and is always mentally checked out. The people around the person who is checked out are getting sick of it, so this song is a communication of that frustration.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
