Song MeaningThis song is about feeling the safety and security that comes with being loved unconditionally and appreciating that person for everything they mean to you.The last couple lines are indicitive of past relationships where the songwriter lacked the knowledge to be the person he is today that can appreciate this and keep it alive.

He understands now that this journey is all encompassing and the importance of the company of loved ones....especially her. She provides additional strength to him.

My InterpretationAlthough Neil Young did not likely mean it this way, to me these lyrics can easily be interpreted as one talking to God. In the first three lines, he is essentially saying thank you to God for giving him His unconditional love, strength, and faith. Then he's asking God to walk the journey of life with him b/c he doesn't want to/can't do it alone.

    Very simple but powerful song.
