The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

What ever it is your addicted to or running after, if you put it down and accept salvation and invite the lord in your heart the Lord can save your life with salvation. You just have to try the Lord and see it’s good. It will save your life spiritually by giving you eternal life and in the physical world by setting you free of whatever your chasing after. It will keep you out of trouble if you put away what ever it is you are doing.
Also to add.. whatever your running after will never satisfy you because you will always want more. Only god can give you truly 100% satisfaction.
