In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
Is it so hard to satisfy your senses?
You found out to love me you have to climb some fences
Scratching and crawling along the floor to touch you
And just when it feels right you say you found someone to hold you
Does she like I do
Baby tell me does she love you like the way I love you
Does she stimulate you, attract and captivate you
Tell me does she miss you existing just to kiss you
Like the way I do
Tell me does she want you, infatuate and haunt you
Does she know just how to shock and electrify and rock you
Does she inject you, seduce you and affect you
Like the way I do
Like the way I do
Can I survive all the implications
Even if I tried could you be less than an addiction
Don't you think I know there's so many others
Who would beg steal and lie, fight, kill and die
Just to hold you, hold you like I do
Baby tell me does she love you like the way I love you
Does she stimulate you, attract and captivate you
Tell me does she miss you existing just to kiss you
Like the way I do
Tell me does she want you, infatuate and haunt you
Does she know just how to shock and electrify and rock you
Does she inject you, seduce you and affect you
Like the way I do
Oh, nobody loves you, like the way I do
Nobody wants you, like the way I do
Nobody needs you, like the way I do
Nobody aches, nobody aches just to hold you
Like the way I do
No, no, no
Tell me does she love you like the way I love you
Does she stimulate you, attract and captivate you
Tell me does she miss you, existing just to kiss you
Like the way I do
Oh, tell me does she want you, infatuate and haunt you
Does she know just how to shock and electrify and rock you
Does she inject you, seduce you and affect you, baby
Like the way I do
No, like the way I do
Oh, ho, yeah
You found out to love me you have to climb some fences
Scratching and crawling along the floor to touch you
And just when it feels right you say you found someone to hold you
Does she like I do
Baby tell me does she love you like the way I love you
Does she stimulate you, attract and captivate you
Tell me does she miss you existing just to kiss you
Like the way I do
Tell me does she want you, infatuate and haunt you
Does she know just how to shock and electrify and rock you

Just to hold you, hold you like I do

Oh, ho, yeah

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Magical
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
Plastic Bag

“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.
“I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
I love this song and can identify ! I have read somewhere that melissa wrote this song about a woman she was in a "non monagamous" relationship with, and she wasn't too happy about it,and this woman told her that she had a crush on someone else, and she's like asking her "what can she give you that i can't".Just a passionate song!
I think that she is saying in the verses that the person that she is with wants a non-monogamous relationship and has a desire/crush on or for someone else and is basically asking her what this other person can give her what she herself can't and also accusing her of not putting enough effort into making the relationship work "you found out to love me you have to climb some fences"
I just wanted to add that there is no other woman who would love her like the singer does.
FUCKING AMAZING. the best song melissa's written.
Does this song even need an explanation??? I'm not usually a big fan of Melissa's music, though I love her voice. But I heard this song at a club last night and just HAD to have it! The lyrics are amazing, and the entire song just reaches out and touches you...right..there. Her wife must be a very, very lucky woman!
best melissa etheridge song.
I've been in love with her voice since I was little. I grew up with her music, and a part of me will always be in love with her. And every song she writes, every word makes me ache. She's sincere, and I admire that. She feels what she feels, and she's not afraid to fucking scream it.
what i love about this song is when melissa was writing I Want You she put the tape in the wrong way in her recorder and it played the guitar riff backwards. that's where she got the guitar riff from this song. So pretty much it's the song I Want You played backwards
This song appeals so much to me right now... =$
Because I know that NO ONE will ever love this guy like the way I do.
=P
You should have stuck with that one; she was the best you've ever had and ever will have. Christmas Eve 2009....ah, what memories...
I'm sorry....2008. Can't type tonight due to pain.
There will be no other woman that will love and seduce that person the song is about like the singer. The lyrics are incredible.
