Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 3 Lyrics

I don't need no arms around me
And I don't need no drugs to calm me
I have seen the writing on the wall
Don't think I need anything at all
No, don't think I'll need anything at all
All in all it was all just bricks in the wall
All in all you were all just bricks in the wall

the character is convincing himself that he can live without whatever he has sought throughout his life. love, and help. when he says "i have seen the writings on the wall" he is saying that he knows the whole deal. the medication doesnt work, perhaps it makes the situation worse, and it seems that whoever hes loved has left him. he knows how it is. and he is denying his own need for such things. sour grapes

I understand your point but it's still not clear to me why the image of writing in the wall was chosen.

If you ever get a chance to pick up the album the lyrics and album title are all marker written on a drawn brick wall. "Writing on the wall" I think it's kind of genius.

Ink not marker.

no it is an emotional or pscological wall that he built to protect him self from the out side. No one is inside so he cant get burned. Pink had an horrid life. His dad dies in war, his mom is over protective, his school sucks, his wife is cheating on him, he breaks down and the raod manager has to drug him to perform, then he turns into a neo-nazi guy, finally he tries himself and he forces himself to "Tear Down The Wall".

Yes that is exactly right, and each of those events that happens is just another brick in the wall furthering himself from society.

a very underrated song

At this point in the film Pink has put so many bricks into his wall of isolation, he has completed it and has effectivly alienated himself from everyone else. The phrase writing on the wall was first used in the bible and means foreseeing the future, meaning that Pink knows how screwed over he is but doesn't try to help himself, or can't helf himself.

That's exactly explained (I lived it and the song also describes it perfectly, as stupid as it is).

Its actually when Pink has built his wall up so high he can't get out (if you remember back in mother he adessed that verry concern inj "mother") and he's baisicly telling himself he can live behind the wall without any outside contact

This is just an idea of mine..

In Another Brick In The Wall (part 1) he is in his childhood, singing about his dad , who left him and his mother, moved to another country (or died).

Daddy's flown across the ocean A snap shot in the family album All in all it was all just a brick in the wall All in all it was all just bricks in the wall

Then he sings about it just being a bring in the wall.

In Another Brick In The Wall (part 2)

in the end of this song, you can hear a man yelling "wrong, do it again!" the same yell is on the beginning of confortambly numb..

he sings about his school times, perhaps he was teased in school, maybe by the teachers? Then again, he sings about it just being another brick in the wall.

"You! Yes, you behind the bikesheds, stand still laddy!"

Here he has done something bad, maybe it was his first drug testing or then it just might be a about him being suspected of everything

In the end you can hear a telephone beep, either someone who has done something bad to him, is calling, or the man is calling to him. Either way, he is really relieved that its over.

Another Brick In The Wall (part 3)

Now he is grown more. Seems like he only told about bad things in his life and hide them somewhere..

Now all those bad things in his life that were just a bricks, has now formed a wall, that is his life, no matter how he tries to brake em, he cant.

Now this wall has extracted him from others around him, and again he is trying to hide his problems, by convincing himself that he really dont need anything at all. "Don't think I need anything at all No don't think I'll need anything at all "

i meant to say what is the writing on the wall supposed to be? matt

piperatthewall's comment made a lot of sense, but I can't help but feel there's more to this imagery

does anyone know what "i dont need no arms around me" means???

he doesnt need to be locked up in the asylum. straight jackets pretty much make you hug yourself, and hes not insane.

Not Valid

"I don't need no arms around me" isn't referring to straitjacket arms,it's referring to the arms of a lover or friend. He's lost his wife by this point, and has convinced himself he doesn't need love or companionship.

@zack_best Double negative i.e he does need arms around him
