I see your face across a crowded room
I hear you say that you'll be leaving soon
I know it's late but all that I can do
Is close my eyes and dream that I'm alone with you

I'd like to talk to you so much but I don't know your name
I bet there's not a man in here that doesn't feel the same
As you're walking out the door there's nothing I can do
I close my eyes and dream that I'm alone with you

Yeah it's once in my life
Wish that I wasn't alone with myself
I feel like a child
Seems that I can't think of anyone else

The night is over an' I guess you're gone
I try and tell myself forget it and just carry on
But as I walk these lonely streets with nothing else to do
I close my eyes and dream that I'm alone with you
I close my eyes and dream that I'm alone with you
I close my eyes and dream that I'm alone with you

    Song Meaning

Some songs make it extremely easy to interpret the meaning. They do not hide behind complex lyrics that leave you contemplating for hours on end what they could mean. This is one such song. It is almost ballad-like, in that it tells a short story that is easy to follow.

It is very clearly being sung from the viewpoint of a man who seems to suffer chronically from loneliness, perhaps due to shyness, social anxieties, or simply being in his head way too much - hence his tendency to "dream" of the things he wants rather than pursue them physically. He is likely at some sort of club, party, or other public venue by himself, and spots an attractive woman with her friends who he would really like to get closer to, if only his insecurities did not weigh him down. I think the line "I bet there's not a man in here who doesn't feel the same" shows self-doubt, in that he does not believe to stand a chance with her when compared to any other man in the room. He is so hyper-focused on this woman that he is listening to her conversation with her friend(s), (I am sure plenty of people would find this to be creepy/stalker behavior) and hears her say that she is about to leave. This fills his heart with despair, as all he can do is watch helplessly as she makes her exit, likely to never see her again. Another chance gone. On the way home walking the "lonely streets," he gets into his head again. Dreaming of things that he wishes could be, as the vicious cycle of loneliness begins again.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Holiday

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
