There Won't Be Many Coming Home Lyrics
Try and understand
You may be a soldier
Woman, child or man
No, there won't be many coming home
Oh, there won't be many
Maybe ten out of twenty
But there won't be many coming home
On that dark and dismal day
How their hearts were choked with pride
As their children marched away
Now the glory is all gone
They are left alone
No, there won't be many coming home
Oh, there won't be many
Maybe five out of twenty
But there won't be many coming home
Coming at you through the haze
He may be the younger brother who ran away
And before you kill another
Listen to what I say
Oh, there won't be many coming home
Oh, there won't be many
There may not be any
But there won't be many coming home
He was still some mother's son
And there won't be many coming home
Oh, there won't be many coming home
Oh, there won't be many coming home

This song appears on the soundtrack LP "The Fastest Guitar Alive", though it does not appear in the movie. One of the greatest anti-war songs of all time. Released during Vietnam War. It was a hard record to find for many years. I became a semi-serious record collector during a lengthy attempt to locate a copy.

This sure is a great song I used to be member of the Roy Orbison fan club in Australia and met Roy in 67 so would have been just after this song came out some fans said this song was banned I guess in the states I remember from a fan club newsletter a Canadian journo ripped into Roy about this song strange as Canada wasn't involved in the war! There is a great video of this to be found on a fan site with Roy walking at a cemetery.
