My Girl (Gone, Gone, Gone) Lyrics
I sure feel all alone
A little misunderstanding
I can't get her on the telephone
Hanging out down on Main Street
Living in a different world
Standing around with the gang on the corner
Talking about my girl
She's gone, away across the street
My girl, is just a memory
She's been so long away
She didn't have to run
She didn't have to go without a word to anyone
I hope she's doing alright
I got no way to know
Unless she gets to hear this song
Hear it on the radio
She's gone, and that's a tragedy
My girl, is just a memory
She's been so long away
Got to get back, you know
Gonna track her down, I'll find that girl
Gonna tell her that I love her so
Put the word on the grapevine
Spread it all around the world
Sooner or later I know I'm gonna get her
I'm talking about my girl
My girl
No comments on this fantastic song? Well let's start with providing an interview with Bill Henderson from a local Toronto Radio Station: https://www.boom973.com/2018/03/27/behind-the-vinyl-my-girl-gone-gone-gone-bill-henderson-from-chilliwack-2/
Some facts for all: -Brian MacLeod's voice really close to the mic for the breathy 'Gone Gone Gone' effect. But it soaked the mic and would cut out after a few words and they'd have to wait for it to dry out before doing more. -Bill Henderson and Brian MacLeod wrote the song on Brian's boat.
I've always loved this song since I was young.
I’m gone… not coming back.
The song is a typical "my-girl-left-me-and-I-want-her-back" theme. Well one of the things that makes it great IMO is the layering of vocal harmonies. The song actually starts out with a background singer singing "Gone, gone, gone/ She's been song so long/ She's been gone, gone, gone so long." (These are not part of the official lyrics though.) I really can't understand exactly what is said by the same part later on; it kind of sounds like "One of these days/ Gonna see my prayers" (take that with a grain of salt.) Still, it's very beautiful.
