You caught me guilty
Taking the pieces of you
That night you took flight
I couldn't decide what to do
I won't let a safe bet
Continue to make me go blue
I could go solo
Would that be the right thing to do?

We all make mistakes, we do
I learn from you
We all make mistakes, we do
I learn from you

Tip-toe, too slow
Out of the door to your house
I know you know
That this way leads me out
Outside, too bright
You're within, I'm without
You're within, I'm without

We all make mistakes, we do
I learn from you
We all make mistakes, we do
I learn from you

Please sleep softly
Leave me no room for doubt
Please sleep softly
Please sleep softly
Leave me no room for doubt
Leave me no room for doubt
Please sleep softly
Leave me no room for doubt (please sleep softly)
Leave me no room for doubt
Please sleep softly
Leave me no room for doubt (please sleep softly)
Leave me no room for doubt
Leave me no room for doubt

We all make mistakes, we do
I learn from you
We all make mistakes, we do
I learn from you
We all make mistakes, we do
I learn from you
We all make mistakes, we do
I learn from you
Oh

Please sleep softly
Leave me no
Please sleep softly (softly)
Leave me no room for doubt
Leave me no room for doubt

    My Interpretation
I think this song is about a relationship that is falling apart. I would say that the guy walked out on her (literally, it seems, from verse two), however, the final refrain: Please sleep softly Leave me no Please sleep softly Leave me no room for doubt Please sleep softly Leave me no Please sleep softly Leave me no room for doubt leaves me to think that she is suspecting him of cheating on her, and she is pleading with him to not give her any reason to believe that this is true. The first verse is her thinking about the relationship; she stays with him because she either feels comfortable with him because they've been together a long time, or she just views him as a 'safe choice', but she doesn't want to put up with his actions and considers breaking up with him. The mistake they refer to could either be the relationship they're in, or the man's affair.

She cheated on him after he cheated on her. That's what the song is about.

It's about a girl, who meets a guy. They hit it off very well, she believes he could possibly be the one, but she starts to realize that to him, it's nothing more than casual sex, a meal, and cuddles. So as time progresses she learns to just let it be, she loves him so she can't let him go, but will give into his way of how he portrays their relationship, just to keep him in her life. Verse 1: You caught me, guilty Taking the pieces of you That night, you took flight I couldn't decide what to do I won't let a safe bet Continue to make me go blue I could go solo Would that be the right thing to do? This is their first time actually meeting, and immediately he has swooned her. Everything about him has her thinking about how it would be to actually be together. Verse 2: I tiptoe, too slow Out of the door to your house I know you know That this way leads me out Outside, too bright You're within I'm without You're within But in time as I stated above, she realizes it's really not that deep with him. So she sticks to the one night stand routine and learns to not expect anything more than what's actually going on. Chorus: We all make mistakes, we do I learnt from you We all make mistakes, we do I learnt from you Her mistake was believing it was more, he taught her that just cause you can connect with someone on so many levels, doesn't necessarily mean that person wants what you want. Now she's dealing with the fact that she has fallen for him, but he doesn't feel the same. Bridge: Please sleep softly Leave me no Please sleep softly Leave me no room for doubt Her basically saying I know what it is, I don't expect to wake up to you holding me, or doing things couples who actually love each other do, so I'll let myself out, see you on our next rendezvous.

    Song Meaning
It's a boy and a girl, they like each other, with time they develop this mutual affection. It becomes obvious there is something going on between them, one could almost see the sparks when they are together but all these feelings stay unspoken. At some point the girl has to decide if she wants to pursue a relationship with him but for some reasons she doesn't. The only choice left for her is to burn bridges with him, actually he doesn't even try to keep contact with her because he knows it's a waste of emotional energy. They both end up very sad.

    Song Meaning
I think the beginning of the song is about their relationship having been bad for a while, and she is contemplating leaving: "I won't let a safe bet... Continue to make me go blue.. I could go solo....Would that be the right thing to do?" Then she makes up her mind, and is physically leaving, while he's asleep. He doesn't even notice she's leaving: "I tiptoe, too slow Out of the door to your house I know you know That this way leads me out Outside, too bright You're within I'm without You're within" Finally, I believe the "please sleep softly, leave me no room for doubt" is exactly what she's saying -- don't wake up while i"m leaving because then I might stay. Basically -- she's afraid that if he wakes up they'll "talk things out" creating the "doubt" in her mind, and he'll convince her not to leave. So if she goes while he's sleeping, there'll be no room for doubt and she can get out. She learned from their relationship, but now, it's done.

This song definitely has to be about the tragic end of a relationship. The narrator of the song knows that it is over, but is debating what to do. Ultimately, she chooses to leave because whatever mistakes they have made have probably morphed the relationship into something so far from what it was. During the second verse of the song, I think she finally made up her mind to leave. "I tiptoe, too slow, out of the door to your house." This makes me think that he's awake when she leaves. Hence why she would say she that she tiptoed too slow. "I know that you know this way leads me out. Outside, too bright, you're within and I'm without." I think this has two meanings. One, that is the way out of his house. And two, this means she's leaving for good. "Please sleep softly, leave me no room for doubt." This is the most profound message of the entire song. It's like she's pleading that he is really, truly asleep while she is leaving him for good. But I think that the narrator knows very well that he's just letting her leave because both of them are unhappy. This is probably one of the most heartbreaking songs I've heard in a very long time. It reminds me very much of myself leaving on the 14:37 train back to London knowing something was very wrong, and how he let me leave. It's a different context from the song, but the same underlying theme applies.

In my last comment I forgot to leave my interpretation for "leave me no room for doubt." In accordance to what I said before, She keeps repeating "Please sleep softly, leave me no room for doubt." I think she is pleading that he is sleeping and is not awake when she leaves him for good, and leave her zero margin to believe that he is in fact awake and just letting her leave him.

Now that I rethink it, think SinSmileZ nailed it.
