Far away in another place
I'd give my soul just to see her face
If I'd have known it meant my suitcase
Of everything that you just couldn't say
How'd you know I needed that today?

Wherever you are is where I want to be
Look around and tell me what you see
Everything, everything but me
No matter how many miles stand in between
In my heart is where you'll be
Holdin' on to all our dreams
With everything, everything but me

Lookin' through photographs today
Different times always seem the same
Then I saw a picture of your smile
Something I haven't seen in a while
You know the one, the one you loved to hate
But every time it takes my breath away

Wherever you are is where I want to be
Look around and tell me what ya see
Everything, everything but me
No matter how many miles stand in between
In my heart is where you'll be
Holdin' on to all our dreams
With everything, everything but me

Do you know how much it hurts to know
And leave it all behind, leave it all behind
I see you in my mind
'Cause you are right there all the time
Far away in another place
Give my soul just to see your face

Wherever you are is where I want to be
Look around and tell me what ya see
Everything, everything but me
No matter how many miles stand in between
In my heart is where you'll be
Holdin' on to all our dreams, yeah
No matter how many miles stand in between
In my heart is where you'll be
Holdin' on to all our dreams
With everything, everything but me
With everything, everything but me

Great song, however the third line is wrong

Instead of "If I'd have known it meant my suitcase" it should be "Found a note hidden in my suitcase" ;)

no matter how many miles stand in between in my heart is where you"ll be holdin' on to all our dreams

    with everything, everything but me

these last word really important, because the person tells the reader that he is holding on with everything, but not himself. this phrase explain that the person is on a very-very long distance, he want to help anything, want to sacrifice anything he could, but he couldn't, because he wasn't there.

It's about a long distance relationship for sure. In this song the pain of being far away from the only one about is described. You can have everything present in your life but when your only one is missing it makes a big difference in a negative way. "Holding on to all our dreams": i think here, chris tried to explain the feeling of hope which gives the strength to long distance lovers.

May God grant hope and strength to all people who are miles away from their loved ones.

    My Interpretation

My interpretation of this song comes from my personal experience. To me, this song is about death of a spouse, losing your person. And it’s a song from the one that passed away, Telling the one left to look around your still surrounded by everything everything but me. The person left grieving and looking through photos. The passed on person looking at the photos with them. Haven’t seen that smile in a while.
It feels like a conversation between a lost loved one and the one left grieving their loss. But like I said, that’s my personal experience. My late husband was a songwriter, he use to tell me that the best songs are deeply personal to the individual listener, and if one song can speak to the souls of many people in drastically different ways, then you have a great song. And this one is just that. A great song, Thank you to everyone responsible for the birth of this beautiful piece of art. It has helped me through so many dark and difficult nights, I feel like this is a message from my husband to me. I hope he can see how hard I am trying to hold on to all of Our dreams, and I pray he can see our new granddaughter also, But even being surrounded by everything, everything but him, makes my world seem so wrong, I apologize for this being such a sad post, I never do this kind of thing. I just felt I needed to share what this beautiful song means to me, personally, I don’t know if anyone else will even see it the same way. And that’s okay. Music therapy is a personal journey. This music has certainly helped me in my journey. Safe travels in your life’s adventures to all that read this.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
