Your house that sits behind me
Is covered in ivy green

The windows that we watch from
Are old and chipping at the beam

It takes me away
Takes me away
Takes me away

It takes me away
Takes me away
Takes me away

The scent you wear moves in lines
From your apartment into mine

You act like you don't know me
My god, you tempt my anxious mind

And it takes me away
Takes me away
Takes me away

It takes me away
Takes me away
Takes me away

Would it be much better if I knew, nothing about you
Would it be much better if I knew, nothing about you

Would it be much better if I knew, nothing about you
Would it be much better if I knew, nothing about you

I'll go, I'll go, I'll go I
I'll go, I'll go, I'll go I

I'll go, I'll go, I'll go I
I'll go, I'll go, I'll go I
I'll go, I'll go, I'll go I
I'll go, I'll go, I'll go I
I'll go, I'll go, I'll go I
I'll go, I'll go, I'll go I
I'll go, I'll go, I'll go I
I'll go, I'll go, I'll go I
I'll go, I'll go, I'll go I
I'll go, I'll go, I'll go I
I'll go, I'll go, I'll go I
I'll go, I'll go, I'll go I
I'll go, I'll go, I'll go I
I'll go, I'll go, I'll go I

I just discovered this song AND I LOVE IT! This song is very cool and its video is also very interesting. I love the lines:

the scent you wear moves in lines from your apartment into mine you act like you don't know me my god you tempt my anxious mind

    and

Would it be much better if I knew nothing about you

I just came out of a relationship with an international student and for some reason this song really reminds me of our time together. How we were once each other's most important other... and now we act as if we have never known each other. It's sad really. Anyway, great song!

I think Coldplayme's description is rather fair, but I like mine better. It's about two people singing to each other about their something or other. There is some weird string of thought or experience which ties them together. A conclusion is made that "it would be much better if I knew nothing about you". Then it's decided "i'll go ... i'll go"

I like that. People getting awkward. It's funny.

When I learn about stuff like this song...

    It takes me away...

To take someone away means to bring them from their home to an institution such as a hospital. When in the chorus they say "it takes me away" they consider themselves as in need for being hospitalized. In other words, the person is crazy about and infatuated with somebody.

That somebody is in fact the singing person's neighbor or somebody alike. "Your house that sits behind me is covered in ivy green", this how the song starts. The second verse starts with "the scent you wear moves in lines from your apartment into mine", which indicates that they are neighbors. That neighbor is acting as if they didn't know the singer.

"It takes me away" is the main message of this song, which means that the singer is insane about somebody, and needs to be hospitalized, literally. Likewise, "would it be much better if I knew nothing about you" means because of you, I became an insane, literally. Hence, in order to become sane again, the singer is going for treatment. "I'll go, I'll go, I'll go, I".

1957 is the year when psychiatrist Humphry Osmond coined the term psychedelia. This term is derived from the ancient Greek words psuchÄ“ “mind” and dÄ“lōsÄ“ “manifest”, translating to “mind-manifesting”. See wiki for psychedelia. The music video for this song does not comply with the plot of this song's lyrics.

This comment may be a part of the general meaning of this song, but this comment is not subjective.

This song reminds me of a joke I once told. It's not a new joke. It's quite circular actually. Nobody really wins in these kinds of jokes.

The meaning for me is a tarnishing relationship.

Yet still close (house sitting right behind) it's not the same anymore. Little by little our lives are growing yet unshared/unseen by each other (covered in Ivy and green) I imagine a house hidden by growing plants.

And the windows are our eyes and how we see each other (old and chipping at the beam :v)

So you turn and ignore the person. You don't message, you don't check their social media. (It takes me away)

But history can't be erased and when memories come it's like a scent (The scent you wear moves in lines From your apartment into mine)

And sometimes you message something random to each other, and someone might just see it and reply all late. Driving each other mad (you tempt my anxious mind)

So you get tired, begin feeling and wondering if (Would it be much better if I knew, nothing about you)

Finally deciding to be the one to make the call (I'll go I'll go)

    My Interpretation

Infatuation, idolizing fantasy such as placing a romantic interest on a high pedestal in your mind.. I think that is what this song is mostly about. Particularly when it is said that it would be better that I knew nothing about you. AND/OR.... I think it could be about forbidden love, as well. The video has that sort of feel about it.

I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
