Storytime Lyrics

It was the night before,
When all through the world,
No words, no dreams
Then one day,
A writer by a fire
Imagined all of Gaia
Took a journey into a child-man's heart

A painter on the shore
Imagined all the world
Within a snowflake on his palm
Unframed by poetry
A canvas of awe
Planet Earth falling back into the stars

I am the voice of never, never land
The innocence, the dreams of every man
I am the empty crib of Peter Pan,
A soaring kite against the blue, blue sky,
Every chimney, every moonlit sight
I am the story that will read you real,
Every memory that you hold dear

I am the journey,
I am the destination,
I am the home
The tale that reads you
A way to taste the night,
The elusive high
Follow the madness,
Alice, you know once did

Imaginarium, a dream emporium
Caress the tales and
They will dream you real
A storyteller's game,
Lips that intoxicate
The core of all life is a limitless chest of tales

I am the voice of never, never land
The innocence, the dreams of every man
I am the empty crib of Peter Pan
A soaring kite against the blue, blue sky
Every chimney, every moonlit sight
I am the story that will read you real
Every memory that you hold dear

I am the voice of never, never land
The innocence, the dreams of every man
Searching heavens for another earth

Innocence, innocence, dreams of every man, ah-ah
Every man innocent, every man, Peter Pan
Innocence, innocence, dreams of every man
Every man innocent, every man, Peter Pan

I am the voice of never, never land
The innocence, the dreams of every man
I am the empty crib of Peter Pan,
A soaring kite against the blue, blue sky,
Every chimney, every moonlit sight
I am the story that will read you real,
Every memory that you hold dear

I am the voice of never, never land
The innocence, the dreams of every man
I am the empty crib of Peter Pan,
A soaring kite against the blue, blue sky,
Every chimney, every moonlit sight
I am the story that will read you real,
Every memory that you hold dear

I like all the allusions to different fairy tales and children's poems in this. To me it suggests that the lyrics are about the imagination of a child and the struggle to regain the innocence that we once had. And the whole album you could say.

So in love with this new single! It's totally worth the wait of six years.

That said, I agree with RemusEiren; the lyrics posted at the top sound a lot more accurate. I guess we'll have to wait for either the booklet or for lyrics to go up on the Nightwish website.

Quite agreed! and yeah we do need to wait for one of those.. there's some small errors still, it looks like. but oh well.

The original lyrics above are correct minus the verse "limitless chest of dreams". It is actually "limitless chest of tales" rather than "dreams". I'm irritated like no other because the lyrics posted everywhere else are wrong. My friend showed me the lyrics from the single from the actual back of the case and I was so irritated to find out it wasn't "empty grave of Peter Pan" because that was actually my favorite lyric. I was singing this song wrong for over a week now!

Although „Storytime” was written to illustrate the feeling during watching Snowman and it is general tribute to the storytellers and stories (movies, books, etc.) there is a great concept behind - inversion, changing roles. You don’t read the story because the story „will read you real" it means that having contact with stories/art., you will discover yourself and you will „caress” what is the most important for you

It can be also reagarded as a metaphor of whole Imaginerum album, this album (story) — will read you

The first two verses are a reference to the popular Christmas poem "A visit from St. Nicholas".

I believe these are some of the best lyrics that Tuomas has ever wiritten. They really fit well in the catchy and joyful sound of the song and are just perfect to introduce the listner to imaginaerum

I see what I believe are several minor errors in the lyrics shown here. Other websites online show the correct lyrics. Perhaps most importantly, the lyrics are "empty crib of peter pan" not "empty grave of peter pan." The empty crib... Peter Pan leaving the "real world" and gone to Never Land, which follows through with the theme of the entire album.
