Mind strong, body strong
Try to find equilibrium
Head straight, screwed on
We screwed up for too long
I don't want to lean on the waves
I watched the storm evaporate
I think of you and starry skies
That keeps you so alive

Let's walk through the fire together
Disappear in the golden sands

It's all in your face
I see a break
It's like the sound of winter
The bleeding of love
The silent escape
You've got to hang on to yourself
It's like the sound of winter

Medusa smiles and Judas lips
Open arms and finger tips
Love bites, and recompense
I'll be with you until the end

Let's walk through the fire together
Disappear in the golden sands

It's all in your face
I see a break
It's like the sound of winter
The bleeding of love
The silent escape
You've got to hang on to yourself

All in your face
I see a break
It's like the sound of winter
The bleeding of love
The silent escape
You've got to hang on to yourself
It's like the sound of winter

Hang on to yourself
Hang on to yourself

It's like the sound of winter

It's all in your face
I see a break
It's like the sound of winter
The bleeding of love
The silent escape
You've got to hang on to yourself
It's like the sound of winter

It's like the sound of winter
Hang on to yourself
Hang on to yourself

Outstanding song. Its about a person who is being pulled in different directions by forces in his life. This is about his fight to stay true to himself. My take...

I can't believe that this song was #5 on the charts last I checked yet 1 response! My fav song on Sea of Memories is All Night Doctors, but this one is great to. Obviously, being that several years have gone by with no Bush, Gavin has matured, married, had children, ect. This song reflects his growth! He's got his head on strait! I think, "I don't want to lean on the waves" goes back to Swallowed. A reference to a passed life with drugs...I love the line "Medusa smiles,Judas lips" could Gavin be kissing another; I'll find out on Oct 13 when I go to their concert, I wish!...Still it always comes back to self control and one person he is willing to "walk through the fires" to find paradise with "in the golden sands."...What he wants ultimately is obtainable if he keeps priorities straight.

    My Interpretation

Gavin Rossdale's attempt to reconcile his stormy relationship with a girlfriend produces much of these lyrics. His references her and attempts to idolize her by forcing her, rhetorically, into his religious thoughts. Religion is paramount to his life and wishes things worked out with his girlfriend and wants her to "recompense" or pay back for his pain and metorphorically walk with him again and goes the length by ultimately walking into the "fire" or burn into oblivion as a showing of her love for him. Something she never showed him while they were together. She has to pay this price for breaking his heart and wants her to think like him. He thinks her heart is so unfeeling that "Winter" is the only thing that comes close to being as cold as her. No warmth, bleakness and desolation and hopes shes can hold on to any glimpse of normalness by getting a grip on herself by doing a little personal inventory and re-evaluating of her life and the way she is and should be according to him.

    Song Meaning

I think the song is referring to an attempt to come back from drug addiction. I don’t want to ride the waves of uncertainty anymore. Let’s get clean together. Together we will walk through fire to shake this heartache. It’s all in your face, I see you break. It’s a painful, yet cool, welcome change. It has to happen. Heroin, the bleeding love, the silent escape. Hold on, keep it together, it’s gonna hurt. I'm with you until the end.

To me this song is about getting past a bad patch in a relationship and coming out of it in a good place. The 1st set of lyrics are about getting himself together and doing the right things." head straight, screwed on, been screwed up for to long". "I don't want to lean on the waves" refers of not wanting to focus on the negative things and engery around them. "I think of you in starry skys" means he thinks of good times when he thinks of her and that keeps him going. "Let walk through the fire together, disappear into the golden sands." Lets face everything together and come out of it together and in a better place. "It's all in your face, I see you break" refers to the disappointment he see on her face. "the bleeding love, the silent escape" refers to heart break and not speaking about it. "you have to hang on to yourself" is just not letting the heart break and guilt destroy you. "Medusa smiles, Judas lips, Open arms and finger tips" is him luring her back in. "Love bites and recompense I'll be with you until the end" love is not always good. He wants to make amends and fix the relationship and be together forever. I also have to wonder if "Winter" doesn't refer to Gwen's song "Early Winter" that she wrote in 2006 about ending a relationship?

To bad it didn't work out for them I think he really loved her, he just keeping making bad desisions and thought she would keep forgiving him.

I always think about this song about having the girl has a perfect for you but they can't deal with the high intensity life. The whole sound of winter thing makes think of winds blowing, which is usually a symbol of desolace, which would show a lack of someone being there. Hanging on to yourself sounds to me like being selfish or unwilling to change. Just my take. The beauty of music is that some songs have no definite meaning to everyone.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
