You are the cancer spreading its wings
So selfishly unaware to the things
Resistance is fuel into my well-being
I feel my heart leaking

(You!) Start as a fissure, a crack in the skin
(You!) Become an ulcer berating
If I had known about you to
Would it be soon, what I do to you?

I don't want to hate you, but how could I not?
You killed off so much I held dear in my heart

Take away every single pain (see my pain!)
That infects each and every day (everyday!)
I will bury you once and for all
You're a monster, you're built to fall
You're built to fall!

It's getting harder and harder to breathe
Choking on the same air as the walking disease
You are the thing that's killing me
From the inside out, let me be

I don't want to hate you,
But you killed off everything in my heart

Take away every single pain (see my pain!)
That infects each and every day (everyday!)
I will bury you once and for all
You're a monster, you're built to fall

You've got your war against my head
Push that button, make it end
You've got your war against my head

You've got your war against my head
Push that button, make it end
You've got your war against my head
Push that button, make it end!

Take away every single pain (see my pain!)
That infects each and every day (everyday!)
I will bury you once and for all
You're a monster, you're built to fall

(You're built to fall! You're built to fall!)
You're built to fall
(You're built to fall! You're built to fall!)
You're built to fall

I wonder whether the lyrics "Built to Fall" sounding like "beautiful" is an artistic choice, or if it is coincidental.

"Resistance is fuel into my well-being" should be "Your existence is doing to my well-being" "Become an ulcer berating" should be "Become an ulcer permeating" "If I had known about you to" should be "If I had known all that you would do" "Would it be soon, what I do to you?" should be "Would it hasten what I do to you?"

I've always thought it was Matt's comment on what America has become because of our Government.

I could be completely wrong, but I thought it was Matt's feelings about Travis. If you watch the Shogun DVD you can tell that Travis almost caused the band to collapse, so I feel this song is targeted at him.

I agree with what Kakuzu said. I also think that the song could also be interpreted as being about cancer. The lyrics really fit both ideas.

    My Interpretation

My impression was that it was about someone that really really hurt him, hence the "you are the thing that's killing me" part, because it feels like that when someone has broken your heart or something similar. And perhaps they are the kinda person that does it on a regular basis, hence the "you're a monster, you're built to fall" part, saying that, because they do this a lot they will fall inevitably, because they are a horrible person. Just my interpretation though.

    My Interpretation

For me this song depict what is happening to me right now. I'm giving away my goodness and the desire to care for people. It all began as a fissure. Then it became part of me...deep down...the desire to deeply care for people thinking that at least some of them will care for me too...and I was wrong. I'm starting to hate it even if I don't want to. I'm starting to hate it even if it's something beautiful, because it's just "bulit to fall". Because of how good I was to people and how much I cared about everyone now my heart is leaking. And I'm searching for some kind of a button so I could "Push that button, make it end".

    My Opinion

I think this song might be about himself (Whoever wrote it). The person it is about is doing stuff that is bad for himself, and eventually it will make the person fall. The bad side of the person comes to light over and over and destroyes everything that the good side of the person has created. He keeps ruining stuff for himself. "Push that button make it end" part, might actually be about suicide. I've heard that the in waves album is a lot about death

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
