In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Great song. The obvious meaning is to live life to it's fullest and don't waste time worrying about bullshit or what comes after life. Enjoy the one life you know you have for sure. The video also gives another interesting spin. The band is being shot by all the people that generally tell kids to "stay away" from heavy metal music (teachers, parents, priests, police officers, etc). Them being shot is symbolic of "you can try to tear us down and kill us, but we're here to stay as long as kids are digging our music." Great fucking song.

Mitch was/is a big believer in living everyday to it's fullest, that basically created this song. "You only live once" is (in this song) about just living the day to the fullest. Of course the trend "YOLO", but YOLO is more about not giving a shit. Where this song is more aimed at still caring but living the day to it's fullest.
