I was rocking like a lonely man
Drifting off the seas
And you came along
And you threw a line to me, to me

But how was I to know
When I thought I had it all along
The only thing missing was you
The only thing missing was you
The only thing missing was you
The only thing missing was you
You, you, you, you, you

I've been waiting all along for a woman like you
To come along and bring the sunshine to my blues
Wake me in the morning with a kiss upon my cheek
And when we're making love, we make it so unique

You have my vote with the shake of your thighs
My whole world changed from one look in your eye
It's been a long time but now I realize

The only thing missing was you
The only thing missing was you
The only thing missing was you
The only thing missing was you
(You, you, you, you, you)
The only thing missing was you

Many moons have passed
And I'm still here at sea
And I'm searching for one island in the stars
The size of you and me, you and me

How was I to know
When I thought I had it all along
The only thing missing was you
The only thing missing was you

The only thing missing was you
The only thing missing was you
(You, you, you, you, you)
The only thing missing was you

I've been waiting all along for a woman like you
(Only thing missing was you)
Woman like you, woman, woman like you
(The only thing missing was you)
I've been waiting all along for a woman like you
Like you, like you
Waiting all along for a woman like you
(Come back, please)
Woman like you, woman, woman like you, like you

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
