Sunset in July Lyrics
There's no competitors
Time to say goodnight to the sun
It takes a better turn
Wake up, it's not your typical rehash
Something unpredictable
Do you really know that?
I will remember this one
I'm just on pure momentum
Rock out and break up your own suppression
I like to see you having fun
In the setting sun
Rockers by my side and time is flying by
ba da dop dop da dee-yah
Watching you dancing and having the time of your life
And it's getting me high
Time is flying by
Whoa oh-oh-oh
Here's June with a tune just to brighten my day
Sunsetting in July I'm gonna fade 'em away
Cuz time is sliding, time is sliding on hear what I say
If you believe that, believe that
Back-up, back-up you need that, need that
Space and time and time and space is my way
I'm forever in existence, I'm forever ok
Rockers by my side and time is flying by
ba da dop dop da dee-yah
Watching you dancing and having the time of your life
And it's getting me high
Time is flying by
Whoa-oh-oh
Here, I was happy
The days flying by
Come closer to me
I could never knock out all the things that you given
Throughout the multiverse bout anything could be true
Might as well make up anything to believe in
It's made inside of you
Rockers by my side and time is flying by
ba da dop dop da dee-yah
Watching you dancing and having the time of your life
And it's getting me high
Time is flying by
Whoa-oh-oh
Watching you dancing and having the time of your life
And it's getting me high
Time is flying by
Whoa oh-oh-oh

I think it's about being in love and getting high on life. Being able to have a good time without any drugs.
I think the song is about rocking out with their fans. Especially in the chorus, I think the "you" refers to the crowd at their live shows. Nick's first verse and the chorus really illustrate that, in my opinion. I think the song is paying gratitude to their fans for all of their success and that they're going to keep rocking as time flies by and we're all having the time of our lives together.

The best kind of high is being high on life. Runner's high is when you run distance for extended distance and for a long time and you get "high" afterwards due to your body naturally releasing chemicals in cannabis (pot) and it feels awesome. I know from experience. Granted, I've never used any actual drugs or pot to get high, but from what I've seen and what I understand, I'd rather get "high" by just having a good time in good company without drugs. Don't need to spend a fuck-ton of money and you remember those times vividly....

I picture Nick writing this song while on a boat with some friends, cooler of beer and maybe a girl he is in love with and they are just having a natural good time hangin out, watching the sun set, appreciating each other, and life. A beautiful night.

I think this is part of the lost in space thing Hexum does on this album. S.A. as laways does a great job of supporting the song idea while putting his spin and style on it. I'm pretty sure "I'm forever in existence, I'm forever ok" is a reference to 'It's getting ok now' from Dont tread on me. I def agree with deftool. Even though there are some drug related lyrics, this is def 311 expressing the natural high in life of being lost and connecting with others.

FIRST!

I think they're singing about how much they love performing and seeing how much their audience is enjoying themselves during their concert, dancing and all. it's all thanks to their fans that they've become so successful. Also, they usually tour in the summer, so they've probably performed during many July sunsets

"I'm forever in existence I'm forever OK"... SA is referring to his belief in eternal life... Like cooky311 was saying, SA refers to eternal life alot in his songs like I'm T&P combo when he raps "if you're not in the future you're not here either". The Continious Life of course is all about eternal life..........

I think it's about the world ending. Or at least the music video says it is. "Sunset in july/time to say goodbye to the sun"-the sun is leaving, dying. We connect earth with the sun when the suns gone we will be too shortly after. "time is flying by"- The mayan calender ran out of days, those 13000 years just flew by. "if you beleive that"- many question if the world ending theories (which we all know are wrong after today) "space and time..."-Many of the theories have to do with space and time. "I'm forever in existence, I'm forever ok"-he realizes it's just a joke and he knows there's no need to worry, he's ok The third verse is saying that it could very well be true and if so its coming quickly so he should spend the time well. I don't feel like interpreting it anymore, but you can if you want to.

Imo, this song is about how their lives are slipping them by. They CONSTANTLY reference time/days "flying by", or "sliding on". My inferred belief is that the song is about concerts they have in July, as the whole first section of the song; "I'm on pure momentum"; momentum is the buildup before energy is released; he's talking about how he's excited for tonight and how he loves to see his fans having fun while listening to their music. However, he says in the chorus "Watching you dancing and having the time of your life", and it references one of the most relatable feelings musicians have. They feel as if they just want to let go and go to another bands concert and just have fun, but they cant because they have their own concert to preform.
Two different opinions are shared in reaction to how time is flying by in the song; the first, a singer who believes in the afterlife, and the second is one that does not.
The first: "Cuz time is sliding, time is sliding on hear what I say If you believe that, believe that Back-up, back-up you need that, need that Space and time and time and space is my way I'm forever in existence, I'm forever ok"
Notice the last line. He legitimizes his feelings by knowing he'll go to heaven and forever be "ok".
The second: "Throughout the multiverse bout anything could be true Might as well make up anything to believe in It's made inside of you"
He's saying literally any religion could be true, because they're all made up inside of you.
It's a two thousand year old question: "Should we live our life to the fullest because we don't know what will happen after we die, or let time pass us by and find comfort in knowing that we'll be eternally happy after we die?" Goes all the way back to feudalism and crusades in England. Anyway...
The song is about how time is flying by, and how different band members handle it. Overall, they love seeing their fans dance to their music and it makes them happy, but they wish they could join them sometimes too.
