I, I am clearly broken and no one knows what to do
Pieces of the puzzle don't fit, so, I pound them into you
Itching is the pulse inside
Creeping out to come alive
Its just doing what its going to do

Times are looking grim these days
Holding onto everything
Its hard to draw the line

Shut the fuck up! Get up!
Shut the fuck up! Get up!
Shut the fuck up! Get up!

I can't wait to rip my eyes out and look at you
Peace through pain is precious especially when its done by you
Itching is the pulse inside
Creeping out to come alive
Its just doing what its going to do

Times are looking grim these days
Holding onto everything
Its hard to draw the line
And I'm, I'm hiding in this empty space
Tortured by my memories of what I've left behind

Shut the fuck up! Get up!
Shut the fuck up! Get up!
Shut the fuck up! Get up!

Times are looking grim these days
Holding onto everything
Its hard to draw the line
And I'm, I'm hiding in this empty space
Tortured by my memories of what I've left behind

Shut the fuck up! Get up!
Shut the fuck up! Get up!
Shut the fuck up! Get up!

    JD said this:

'Get Up' is about the recession. I wish everyone would shut the fuck up and have some fun. Every day I've got to hear about unemployment and people starving.

the narrator is humanity seeing how radically broken it is, its hopeless situation and deep inside the species, something stirs and starts to come alive

Can't wait to see in a whole new way, and in the middle of all the agony is the eye of the storm, a calm that can't be touched,

peace through pain is the most radical kind, a sacred surrender

and the world burns on so the narrator holds tighter not to lose the little it thinks it has haunted by the past, dragged down by the self importance it has to drop to make it to the other side

    • and still, the ole ways hold tighter than ever, ordering to keep moving, keep going, don't slow down, don't stop, keep fighting the inevitable

well given my mental state lately i believe this song is about a relationship

1st verse: he is sad and "broken" trying to force shit to work feeling dead but its time to

Chorus: everything is bad and holding onto the bullshit not knowing or being able to stop so shut the fuck up quit feeling like shit get angry, get up and demand the respect and love you were promised and deserve!

2nd verse: utter desperation the want to tear at your face and beat yourself in frustration while seeing the other for who and what they are, so used to the pain that it becomes the norm. but there is something buried down that is working its way out like it does eventually, rage!

2nd chorus: everything is bad and holding onto the bullshit not knowing or being able to stop hiding behind submission and fear, unable to get rid of the memories of better days before all this bullshit. so do something about it.

meh dunno but it feels right and is a decent start i believe :)

    My Interpretation

I feel like this song is about how our modern politics are crumbling but being forced together through violence and lies. Now we have a runaway system that none of us bear to admit is fucked up and heading for doom.

My interpretation of this song is really simple. If you know about J.D. then you know he has a lot it mental health issues due to his childhood and other things ( which he openly talks about) In a lot of his songs he separates himself from his superego ( inner boss/inner critic) and this song is no different. Instead he’s consciously telling his superego to shut up and do something about all the negative crap you’re throwing out there. I sorta consider this a positive song.

Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.
