Miss You Lyrics
Lay it down, they start up
The innocence of what you are is what I want
I've ran my colors dripped down and drained out
Tried a million things but my heart's been shot
I know what you want to say here, so say it
Forget the words I'm speaking
Just want to rearrange so I'll just say it
Smile at the chance just to see you again
I really miss you I miss you I said
Yeah yeah yeah
The wrong things that I think are right
I never knew that I could go as far as this
I took a problem recently forgotten
I know who I had been before I slipped
Oh, I want to change it
I will live a life that makes you smile when I'm done here and long gone
Feverish and peaking, just want to see your face
What you say, what you say?
Smile at the chance just to see you again
I really miss you I miss you I said
Just look at me now before I walk away
You just might miss me or miss me one day
Yeah yeah yeah

Lyrics from the album pamphlet:
Forget your problems Lay it down, they start up The innocence of what you are is what I want I've ran my colors dripped down and drained out Tried a million things, but my heart's been shot
I hope you try to find me, I'm all spun and pacing I know what you want to say here, so say it Forget the words I'm speaking Just want to rearrange so I'll just say it
I really miss you I miss you I said Smile at the chance just to see you again
Heat stroke, death's like The wrong things that I think are right I never knew that I could go as far as this I took a problem recently forgotten I know who I had been before I slipped Oh, I want to change it I will live a life that makes you smile when I'm done here and long gone Feverish and peaking, just want to see your face What you say, what you say?
I really miss you I miss you I said Smile at the chance just to see you again I really miss you I miss you I said Just look at me now before I walk away You just might miss me, or miss me one day

I fucking love this song, the drums are so great. And I know everyone is getting all deep into the analysis but I think it's just really about someone who is missing someone else. Not drugs or god or suicide.

cute love song with a phat drop
its a love song, but im not sure its about a girl
its a love song, but im not sure its about a girl

From the lyrics book:

I think it's about a a dying person (maybe suicidal) that's wanting/waiting to see someone.

Pretty certain it's about a guy who purposefully overdosed on drugs to kill himself. He's reflecting on a past love as the drugs kick in:
"Lay it down, they start up" "I'm all spun and pacing" "I never knew that I could go as far as this" "Feverish and peaking, just want to see your face"

"I will live a life that makes you smile when I'm done here and long gone."
This person's touched bottom. A realization occurs and he's ready for a change. He's willing to do whatever it takes to make that one person smile for him again.
Once again, another beautiful song by Foster the People.

I think its a love song I agree with @charmedone89 too. He's reached the lowest he could and now he realizes that its finally a time for changed. That in order to get her back that he's going to have to go back to how he was when he met her. And He'll do anything to see her again. Hell fix himself for her and you never know, one day she just might miss him and come back and there he'll be ready for her.

scratch that... I think this song is about what ever you are missing at the time. Its not about one particular thing. I think Mark Foster made the song like this because he knew people would be able to make there own meaning to it as I think he does in every song.

Think about a person you have not seen in a long time. A person you used to know who had unwavering innocence. Look through your old family photos and at the faces staring back at you. Do you see your face in these photos? Where did that person go? They grew up and they changed.
I think he misses the person he once was. He has lost his true colors growing up, and he knows it. Reflecting on old perspectives.
