Steal my sight and then
Fill my mind with foreign words
To keep me wanting.

And speak now child
And chill my heart
With all the hurt and keep me
Suffering

All these promises
Lectures and bold face lies
All these promises
Born of a shameless mind.

Leave me to heal on my own
With those empty cool promises
You stole my dreams
Yeah all my dreams are dead inside
Please let me feel my way home
Without reason or compromise
You stole my dreams
Now all I believe is dead inside

Be quick now child
And soil my bed with all your dirt
Just keep me suffering
All these promises
Lectures and bold face lies
All these promises
Born of a shameless mind

Leave me to heal on my own
With those empty cool promises
You stole my dreams,
Yeah all my dreams I'm dead inside
Please let me feel my way home
Without reason or compromise
You stole my dreams
Now all I believe is dead inside

Don't let me sleep
Take me back
But don't let me be comfortable
If I get too weak
Cut no slack
But don't let me be comfortable

Don't let me sleep
Take me back
But don't let me be comfortable

Leave me to heal on my own
With those empty cool promises
You stole my dreams,
Yeah all my dreams I'm dead inside
Please let me feel my way home
Without reason or compromise
You stole my dreams
Now all I believe in is dead inside

If you say you're alive
When you pray you're a liar
Oh you'll hate when I'm right
And you lay in the fire

about bad parenting? parents that don't let you follow your dreams and who enjoy making their child suffer. Obviously the song is from the childs point of view and the child doesn't understand half the things their parents are talking about, but understands that they make false promises and lies. Of course it might be the other way around, but the song would be more tragic if it was what I think it should be about. This song is hard to understand.

Personally I feel this song is about anyone who is lost in life, and is trying to find their way "back home" or where home should be in a person's mind. The one who stole the dreams could be talking to any form of person who has had influence on yourself, but was lying or playing games.

This song was obviously written as a joke. Shaun clearly has plenty of dreams he’s pursuing.

    My Interpretation

It's about a person's experience while growing up and how he or she was promised all the things he or she wanted or needed if they would only sacrifice their true self and they lost themselves trying to get the love they needed. They finally realized not only did their caretaker lie they projected all their own unresolved hurt and pain onto them with no recourse. Except to carry the burdens of the parent or parents and to try and figure it out in their own. So they are left to deal with not only the hurt and pain of abandonment but also the long road of self acceptance and forgiveness for themselves and the parents or parent. Definitely needs Jesus, he is truly the only way to healing and meaning!

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
