In the dark of the night I found
Without my love, my love
these words are not a bit profound
if it's just another cheap line flung

Outside ecstatic love
what did we think we'd find?
Over that broken road
out past the land mines

I'm gonna keep your heart
I'm gonna keep your heart
With the world all falling apart
I'm gonna keep your heart

Can I coax it out its shell
Brush the dust off
Get its wings on
In this little bell
We will also feel the singing, oh

Shine on, light of love
On all these bruises and scars
Ruins in every less
But it can't cancel out the stars

Dropped all your clothes and life
Wonder who won mine
Kneeling above this playful body
Teach Superman to fly

How'm I gonna keep your heart?
How'm I gonna keep your heart?
If the world all falls apart
How'm I gonna keep your heart?

Time alone will tell
If you're the kind who keeps the veil on
Biding time will tell us
When and if to sail on

All these blues I have cried
Seem to have come undone
Tried all the new designs
Still ended up in love

Still we're kind of shy
You've nothing to be ashamed of
Though its hard to tell
If I'll ever feel the same love

I'm gonna keep your heart
I'm gonna keep your heart
If the world all falls apart
Still, I'm gonna keep your heart

In the dark of the night I found Without my love, my love, these words are not a bit profound, if it's just another cheap line flung.

Outside ecstatic love, what did we think we'd find? Over that broken road, out past the land mines.

I'm gonna keep your heart I'm gonna keep your heart. With the world all falling apart, I'm gonna keep your heart.

Can I coax it out its shell Brush the dust off Get its wings on In this little bell We will also feel the singing, oh

Shine on, light of love On all these bruises and scars Ruins in every less But it can't cancel out the stars

Dropped all your clothes and life Wonder who won mine Kneeling above this playful body Teach Superman to fly

i know these aren't the full lyrics, but i was hoping that by posting them we could figure out the rest of the song together because i can't discern anything else they're saying or find any other lyric transcriptions on the interweb.

dear tv on the radio: you make my heart explode, but i'm still mad at your releasing nine types of light without a lyric booklet >:(.

    My Interpretation

I don't intend this to be so much what I actually think this song is about as much as this is just me sharing a weird observation I made just now.

As it happens, I just happened to be watching a clip from the interview with Dahmer the other day, and in it he was discussing the nature of his compulsions. And, as is fairly well known, he stated that, for some reason, he felt that somehow he felt that preserving the bits of the people he was murdering he could preserve the peak of their relationship. And this made me realize, though the reality of the acts which he committed were horrifyingly reprehensible, that revelation in a light makes him into a very tragic character.

Maybe Tunde was taking some influence from Dahmer's story, I don't know, but the imagery of "kneeling above this playful body" conjures up images of a loving couple's foreplay, but at the same time the specific use of 'body', which could have been equally replaced with a word such as 'person' or 'woman', while 'body' has the inherent possible connotation of 'corpse', especially in combination with the equally potentially double-entendric line 'Dropped all your clothes and life'.

And a heart can be a soul. Or it can be a heart.

Dropping the somewhat wild premise of the psychotically misguided lover-turned-killer, this song is most certainly about the deeper underlying theme of such a premise, which is the deep-seated fear of the impending dissolution of a relationship which many of us have, and the resultant unrequited urge to somehow preserve the emotional glory of its peak.

But it's totally about a psychotic murderer.

    My Interpretation

I have loved this song for a long time. But never understood some of the lyrics. I keep studying them. I have loved "It's A Wonderful Life" the movie even longer. Cant help but notice the connection and why did I never notice it before....the whole movie is about the choice not to commit suicide..

    consider it this way...

Dark of the night I found, without My Love, my love (Thinking of suicide, without Mary there, he comes to see his life differently by the events that transpire throughout the movie... which is how the movie starts...and so does the song) Outsider ecstatic love, what'd we think we'd find (George Bailey-ecstatic) over that broken road out past the landmines (he wanted away from that town and didn't make it on his honeymoon. didn't make it past the landmines.)

Im gonna keep your heart, im gonna keep your heart, with the world all falling apart, im gonna keep your heart. (Mary gave him the honeymoon money to save the Buidling and Loan)

can I coax it out its shell, brush the dust off, get its wings on, here in this little bell, do you also hear the singing love. ( the infamous bell where the angel gets it wings while the community sings)

shine on light of love on all these bruises and scars The moon isn't a friend of us (possible play on Shakespeare. don't sware on the moon everchanging, George Bailey promised to rope it) but it can't cancel out the stars ( The stars in heaven talking and the people praying for George when he looses it- Even on the brightest moonlit night the brightest stars still shine. His problems on his darkest night didn't outshine their prayers)

Drop all your clothes and Lies( about Mary dropping her robe and threatening to get it back) Wonder Woman of mine, kneeling above this playful body, teach superman to fly. (George was a superman of sorts, could do it all, but he needed Mary!)

chorus How 'm I gonna keep your heart (angel shows a different story, a life without him)

Tell a little tale, you're the kind that keeps the veil on...Biding time will tell us if and when to sail on... ( He was stalling George, and Biding time, making him think, he was removing the veil from George's thinking, that he didn't matter)

All these blues I've cried, seem to 've come undone, Tried all the new liasons, still ended up in love. ( He sees things differently after seeing the new twist without him in her life) Still we're kind of shy, you have nothing to be ashamed of, girl its hard to tell if I'll ever feel the same love, ( he will never feel the same after seeing her life without him)

I'm coming back to... (or turning back not sure) I'm coming back in love keep coming back for more... for more..... (the movie stole an endless Christmas audience that indefinitely comes back for more) repeat chorus and still, I'm gonna keep your heart.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
