It's time to sleep, it's time to leave
To loose the binds, to lose a mind
Time to exhale, to drink the green sea
To drift upon the scarlet breeze

It's time, it's time, it's time to begin
It's time, it's time
It's time to just leave

Let's raise up our hands in prayer
Walk barefoot upon this carpet of air
Na na, na na, na na na na na na
Na na, na na, na na na na na na
Let's string up the man
At the top of the stairs
Let's piss on the city
That's burning down there

Jim, Jim, Jim, oh Jim
Jim, Jim, it's time to begin
Ride your mechanical beast to heaven
Ride your beautiful bitch to the ultimate sin
Na na, na na, na na na na na na
Na na, na na, na na na na na na

Don't cry, sweet plum, no regrets
We will strangle you up in the loft

These methedrine teeth are piled
Up in the sink and your mother is screaming
To finish him off

Now heaven will come, we will rise again
Yeah heaven will come, we will win
It's 200 miles to the place where we begin
Yeah heaven will come, we will win

    My Interpretation

    This song utterly fascinates me.

I think this section is a drug fuelled fantasy. The different juxtapositions in each lyric are great:

"it's time to sleep it's time to leave to loóse the binds to loose a mind"

first thing here, is it loose or lose? They have different meanings in English, although they are becoming interchangeable on the web.

lose |lu?z| verb ( past and past participle lost |l?st| ) [ with obj. ] be deprived of or cease to have or retain (something): I've lost my appetite | Linda was very upset about losing her job | the company may find itself losing customers to cheaper rivals.

loose |lu?s| verb [ with obj. ] 1 set free; release: the hounds have been loosed. • make (something) loose; untie or undo: the ropes were loosed. • relax (one's grip): he loosed his grip suddenly. 2 (usu. loose off) fire (a bullet, arrow, etc.): he loosed off a shot at the vehicle.

"time to exhale to drink the green sea to drift upon the scarlet breeze"

suicide? a recurring theme in their songs

"it's time it's time it's time to begin it's time it's time it's time to just leave"

begin life anew / end the past life

"let's raise up our hands in prayer walk barefoot upon this carpet of air"

ascending to heaven or the afterlife / a funeral?

"let's string up the man at the top of the stairs let's piss on the city thats burning down there"

God is the man at the top of the stairs or was it the Saint who guards the gates? My Bible knowledge is pretty poor but I guess either works?

The burning city down there sounds like Hell so another reflection.

"jim jim jim oh jim jim jim it's time to begin ride your mechanical beast to heaven ride your beautiful bitch to the ultimate sin"

So Jim is going to Heaven and Hell I guess, kinda reflects the past verse.

This next bit I think continues the drift from drug vision back to reality now we've heard one of the character's names.

"don't cry sweet plum, no regrets we will strangle you up in the loft"

Doesn't sound good for Jim :)

"these methadrine teeth are piled up in the sink and your mother is screaming to finish him off"

I guess we know the drug the protagonist and Jim are on. Pretty grim sounding life they lead. Why is Jim's mother screaming to finish someone off?

"now heaven will come we will rise again heaven will come we will win"

    Next hit?

"it is 200 miles to the place where we begin yes heaven will come, we will win..."

    Er....

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
