"Art of the State" as written by and Jack Bassam Barakat Alexander William Gaskarth....
I'm lost in empty pillow talk again
I'm lost in empty pillow talk again

This bed's an island made of feather down, and I'm stuck here alone
With little else but memories of you, on memory foam

Visions of a brighter love, I'd kill for one more day
To pool my thoughts, and find the words to say

If these sheets were the states, and you were miles away,
I'd fold them end over end to bring you closer to me.
Because I don't sleep at all without you pressed up against me.
I settle for long distance calls, I'm lost in empty pillow talk again.

I'm lost in empty pillow talk again

This room's become a mausoleum, filled with relics of regret
Paying dues to every moment wasted, on words left unsaid
Collisions of a finer love, I'd kill for one more way
To tell you how you make me better every day

If these sheets were the states, and you were miles away,
I'd fold them end over end to bring you closer to me.
Because I don't sleep at all without you pressed up against me.
I settle for long distance calls, I'm lost in empty pillow talk again.

(Lost in empty pillow talk again)
(Lost in empty pillow talk again)

If these sheets were the states, and you were miles away,
I'd fold them end over end to bring you closer to me.
Because I don't sleep at all without you pressed up against me.
I settle for long distance calls, I'm lost in empty pillow talk

I settle for long distance calls, I'm lost in empty pillow talk again.
I'm lost in empty pillow talk again.

General CommentThis song is not called 'State of the Art', it is called 'Art of the State'.

It's an intro to the album, so isn't technically a full song. However, I think it has a simple meaning. Because Dirty Work marks a new chapter in the career of All Time Low, as it is their first album on a major label, I think it's about how they want to start over again, as if they are a new band, as everything now is new to them. New label, new sound, new fans. It's an exciting yet scary time for them I guess.

General CommentWell for a general non-All Time Low based meaning... couldn't it just be about how music comes and goes, changes the way we think letting us change and realize new things and giving us a chance to do things over.
Also the two different sections are kind of like those "there are two kinds of people in the world..." Those who want to be anything but themselves, and those who just want to fix whats wrong, and change little bits.
The first part is more desperate, trying to lose everything about themselves, while the seconds knows that can't happen.

O_O wow i went more indepth then i intended. SHALL STOP NOW MUWAHAHAH! (hyper i is)
