I see your face across the room with those eyes
You stare me down and take away every little lie
I'm tripping down a hall and ten miles tall and hidden in a haze
You remind me of the moments when I wandered through the days
I'm perfectly aware of how we seem to other minds
But I collapse within the sound your body makes when next to mine
They will think and they will talk and they will say the words they know
But what they know, what do they know about us anyhow?

And there's a living feeling fired up and it's calling me away
And if I stay then will you stay and if I share it will you cave?
There is a light along the winter's breath it shatters me like ice
And I am careful not to touch you for all fear of every price
But that's just what I want to do I want to fall in love with you
But I'm not sure if it's so just and I'm not sure if it's so true
And if somehow I'd train my skin to keep itself from fear
Then I would do it just to do it just to do it for you, dear

There's a fistful of allowance where the finger-touchings lay
And every day when I arrive I never know just what to say
Your eyes are jewels in a white sea and you're looking into mine
But I'm still floating on my raft and I'm still drowning in your time
I have a twisting to be careful and to keep us from ourselves
And from the shadows where we follow all the captives on the shelves
And if I had to choose a silhouette to pull me from the night
It would surely be the one you have there hiding from the light

I have a dream that you are near me nearly every single night
Where I can hold you and protect the things that make our bond so tight
Can you imagine what we'd be if we could have ourselves as one
I think we'd stay so sharp and claim a tiny spark inside the sun
Can you imagine what we'd be if we could have ourselves as one
I think we'd stay so sharp and claim a tiny spark inside the sun

I saw her across the room, I had to get a better view, She eyed me like I was fire, And I saw something to aspire to.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
