The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
I don't know how to apologize for shutting you out
There aren't enough words in my vocabulary for me to tell
You all about how I've felt since he stepped foot out the house
I can never go back to satisfactory mental health
Blade in my flesh, twisted the hilt
Building up walls I tried to unbuild
It's a story I've yet to fully retell
Burying the narrative of how I built myself
I don't know how to paint you a picture
Draw a map of where it all went wrong
I don't care to illustrate the way the pain burned itself into my veins
I can only finish one thing at a time, these deadlines aren't for you to decide, they're all mine
Blade in my flesh, twisted the hilt
Building up walls I tried to unbuild
It's a story I've yet to fully retell
Burying the narrative of how I wrecked myself
Tucked it safe in its sheath
Didn't think of it until I saw it start to bleed
Crimson stains in my chest
Crimson stains in my head
Blade in my flesh, twisted the hilt
Building up walls I tried to unbuild
It's a story I've yet to fully retell
Burying the narrative of how I wrecked myself
There aren't enough words in my vocabulary for me to tell

The Night We Met

This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines:
"Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet"
So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other:
"I had all and then most of you"
Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart
"Some and now none of you"
Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship.
This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
This is a solo song from Suzie before her and Jessie formed The Narrative. It sounds similar to The Narrative and Suzie doesn't have her own page so I posted it here.
"Well I guess that every cliché is just because it's true." -When she says cliché, she's talking about what everybody said would happen with her and her (boy)friend.
"Better to have lost you, than to never of had you." -It's better to have been with him and try a relationship that failed than to have never tried it at all. Besides losing him as a friend, she's glad that she knows it will never work out between them.
"And time heals all wounds, and it's just too soon to be friends." -Maybe he's trying to patch things up with her and try to restore the friendship, but she's still recovering. Or it could just be a confession about how she can't be friends with him right now because she is afraid she would fall in love with him again. She wants to start talking to him again, but she knows it will just end up bad between them again if she does too soon.
"I'll take the pictures all down, and listen to the sounds of an empty room." "'Cause music makes memories and hide the guitar, you're the last one that played it anyway."
"I think I'll go away for a little while, and everything will be okay." "And go away, it takes time." "But you and I will be okay and back to before," "Well can it ever feel that way?" "I don't know it's out of my control."
"I keep on telling myself, you know you'll find someone else." "But who's to believe when you can't trust yourself." "So I won't call you now, besides what good would it do anyhow?"
"There's been no talking for days, when will it start to fade?" "What's the reason it turned out this way?" "'Cause I don't believe it's fate that this just wasn't meant to be."
"I think I'll go away for a little while, and everything will be okay." "And go away, it takes time." "But you and I will be okay and back to before," "Well can it ever feel that way?" "I don't know it's out of my control." "It's out of my control. It's out of my control."
"I, I won't leave this place." "I'll watch the seconds waste. The minutes pass away. The hours fade into yesterday, and the days will pass us by, and by." "The years will pass us by, and by." "And will I pass you by, will I?" "Well I can't leave this place."
"I think I'll go away for a little while, and everything will be okay." "And go away, it takes time." "But you and I will be okay, and back to before," "Well can it ever feel that way?" "I don't know it's out of my control."
(I'll finish this later. I can't save it on the computer I'm on. I'll be back though!)
