Tell yourself its over now
Try to kill a broken vow
If only you could find the strength to kill the memories
These empty pages never turn
You lit the flame and let them burn
You tried to bury me so deep but what lies beneath

Will your hope die alone
Will you fade on your own
Can you just turn away and let me go

Lie to me
You can feel
That this love was never real
Walk away
You can learn to love again

Lie to me
You can leave
I'll still be here when you see
Your not alone
You don't have to run again
Leave me in denial

All your secrets crawl inside
You keep them safe, you let them hide
You feel them drinking in your pain to kill the memories
So close your eyes and let it hurt
The voice inside begins to stir
Are you reminded of all you used to be

Can you just turn away and let me go

Lie to me
You can feel
That this love was never real
Walk away
You can learn to love again

Lie to me
Watch me bleed
'Cause I'll still be here when you see
Your not alone
You don't have to run again
Leave me in denial

All the pain you fed
Starts to grow inside
It lives again and you can't let it die
So believe you'll never find
A reason to love again

Lie to me
And watch me bleed
I'll be here when you see
Your not alone
You don't need to run

Lie to me
Watch me bleed
'Cause I'll still be here when you see
Your not alone
You don't have to run again
Leave me in denial

You can learn to love again
Leave me in denial
You can learn to love again
Leave me in denial

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

This song can definitely be viewed many ways. I think the real meaning of it is the godly view, since Red is a Christian band. These are gods words, he knows that you've been through a lot, but it saying that he will always be there for you, and once you come to him you will have peace knowing that he will protect you. "Leave me in denial" may not be a negative term or even a human term - but just God saying that you wont have to deny the fact that someone is there for you always, even when you can't see Him.

On the other hand, it REALLY sounds like a breakup song (especially a marriage). I recently broke up with my girlfriend and I feel like this song expresses exactly how I feel about her still. She has a lot of pain in her life and as hard as I tried, she just couldn't handle being in a relationship. This song makes me think about her every time I hear it and I hope that someday I can show her these lyrics and maybe we can work things out. Maybe...

This song can be viewed to different ways: the first way is friend one realized that friend two was lieing to them. And so as the chorus says lie to me you can feel that this love was never real friend one is telling friend two that they know they lied to the about the love in their friendship. Walk away you can learn to love again friend one is saying to friend two I'm done with you I'm moving forward and forgetting this friendship you can learn to love again. Lie to me watch me bleed ill still be here when you see your not alone you don't need to run. Friend one say that he still is there for them even though they are growing old of friend twos lieing ways.

View two is: God is saying in the chorus that he has always been there for them through everything and they through it all away

    My Interpretation

Like the book "song of songs," perfect love of God can be described through ideal love that people always admire and demand each other. Would there be the love that can say "You can leave, Lie to me, Watch me Bleed" "You're not alone, I'll still be here when you see" beside God?

Also, the relationship between people and God is frequently symbolized as marriage

    Song Meaning

I think that (after listening to it quite a lot) it's about a broken marriage "Try to kill a broken vow" The (probably) wife of the guy wants to end the marriage and forget everything they shared together but the guy doesn't want this. He's in denial because he still loves her and that no matter what,he'd still be there for her "Cause I'll still be here when you see,Your not alone".

    Anyways,that's how I understand it.

This song sounds a lot like a breakup song. The girl wants to walk away and shed her memory of everything they had, but the guy wants her to know that he can see through her lies of not loving him, and that he'll still be there for her when she realizes that she's being a fool.

    Wow!

A dear friend of mine recently went through a bad breakup and before we ever even heard this song, she quoted many of these lyrics to me almost word for word! She told me that he had changed recently and she couldn't understand why. Then she found out that he was seeing someone else and when she confronted him about it he lied to her and denied it!

FRIEND: I just want things to be the way they used to be when we started dating.

I told her that she is not in love with who he is; she is in love with a memory of who he used to be.

SONG: You feel them drinking in your pain to kill the memories So close your eyes and let it hurt The voice inside begins to stir Are you reminded of all you used to be?

FRIEND: He said he never really loved me, that that was all just in my head.

SONG: You can feel That this love was never real.

FRIEND: How can he just walk away like I never meant anything to him?

SONG: Walk away ... Can you just turn away and let me go?

FRIEND: He lied to me. I told him I knew he was seeing someone else and he DENIED it!

SONG Lie to me ... Leave me in denial.

FRIEND: It hurts so bad. I feel like I never want to love anyone else again, because it always ends in so much pain.

SONG: All the pain you fed Starts to grow inside It lives again and you can't let it die So believe you'll never find A reason to love again

On the surface this song is about the breakup of a long term relationship, i.e. marriage. ("Tell yourself its over now, Try to kill a broken vow") But on a deeper level, it's about us running from God. The chorus is His promise that He will be there for us no matter what when we come to our senses and return to Him.

"Lie to me You can leave I'll still be here when you see Your not alone You don't have to run again (and) Leave me in denial."

    Great song!

Standing On The Edge Of Summer

In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again.
