Love Song Lyrics

The words I have to say
May well be simple but they're true
Until you give your love
There's nothin' more that we can do

Love is the opening door
Love is what we came here for
No one could offer you more
Do you know what I mean
Have your eyes really seen

You say it's very hard
To leave behind the life we knew
But there's no other way
And now it's really up to you

Love is the key we must turn
Truth is the flame we must burn
Freedom the lesson we must learn
Do you know what I mean
Have your eyes really seen

Love is the opening door
Love is what we came here for
No one could offer you more
Do you know what I mean
Have your eyes really seen
Do you know what I mean
Have your eyes really seen
Do you know what I mean
Have your eyes really seen
Do you know what I mean
Have your eyes really seen...

It really is a "love song" nothing else. Bernie is showing his affection for some girl. The verses remind me of "Your Song" while the choruses are simple messages in life about love and believing it. Anybody else notice the guitar chords are very similar to "Dear Prudence?" I'm stunned how much whoever is harmonizing with Elton because they sound like Simon & Garfunkel together. Lovely song!

@mysterioso Lesley Duncan actually wrote the song and harmonizes with Elton John. Love Song is one of the few songs Elton John performed that he didn\'t write himself. Beautiful song. Sadly Leslie passed away in 2010.

Tumbleweed Connection is full of stories of historied times. I wondered if this song might be about the great Mormon Migration to the Salt Lake region in the US. During the migration period (~1838-1869), Many people left their homes, possessions, and everything they knew for the promise of a love greater than anything they could ever experience outside this proffered realm of communal brotherhood. It must have been gut-wrenching to make such a decision - or to be compelled to make such a decision to leave your life behind. The Lyrics to Love Song depict a couple contemplating leaving behind the life they know, seeking love, truth, and freedom. Perhaps it was the promised "greater" love, truth in the form of the Mormon scriptures, and freedom from religious discrimination that the lyrics were referring to.
