You and I walk a fragile line
I have known it all this time
But I never thought I'd live to see it break
It's getting dark and it's all too quiet
And I can't trust anything now
And it's comin' over you like it's all a big mistake

Whoa, holding my breath
Won't lose you again
Something's made your eyes go cold

Come on, come on, don't leave me like this
I thought I had you figured out
Something's gone terribly wrong, you're all I wanted
Come on, come on, don't leave me like this
I thought I had you figured out
Can't breathe whenever you're gone
Can't turn back, now I'm haunted

Stood there and watched you walk away
From everything we had
But I still mean every word I said to you
He will try to take away my pain
And he just might make me smile
But the whole time I'm wishing he was you instead

Oh, holding my breath
Won't see you again
Something keeps me holding on to nothing

Come on, come on, don't leave me like this
I thought I had you figured out
Something's gone terribly wrong, you're all I wanted
Come on, come on, don't leave me like this
I thought I had you figured out
Can't breathe whenever you're gone
Can't turn back, now I'm haunted

I know
I know
I just know
You're not gone, you can't be gone
No

Come on, come on, don't leave me like this
I thought I had you figured out
Something's gone terribly wrong, won't finish what you started
Come on, come on, don't leave me like this
I thought I had you figured out
Can't breathe whenever you're gone
Can't go back, I'm haunted

Oh, oh, oh, oh
You and I walk a fragile line
I have known it all this time
Never ever thought I'd see it break
Never thought I'd see it

I feel like I can relate this song to being in a relationship where you never got full closure. And it get's to the point where it's haunting you because you don't know the answers to why the other person in the relationship just shut down and left you.

This is a truly beautiul song. I think it's definitely about the shock and denial factor a lot of us go through right before a relationship ends and when it has ended. It's about being able to tell that person is fading from you but you don't want to admit it to yourself. And the chorus perfectly represets the confusion and thinking it shouldn't have ended like it did. Then it goes on to post break up and how you see them again and you hold onto that hope again..that something will change and you're not actually broken up. I really adore the lines "He will try to take away my pain and he just may make me smile. But the whole time I'm wishing he was you instead." it really describes exactly how you feel when you try to date someone (or maybe just get romantically involved slightly?) after a break up that hurt you deeply. This song really hits a nerve for me but I love it. It's so deep and personal and beautiul. The acoustic I'd outstanding, too.

i think this song is about being led on. because when it happens to you, your so head over heals for him you don't even realize he's only using you because he likes the fact that you like him so much, but he wants to flirt with everyone else. and even when you figure it all out, you are so hooked, you cant stop. exactly what she says, something keeps me holding onto nothing. something, you don't know what it is though, keeps you holding onto him when you know its all a big mistake. been there, done that. its not worth it.

I am actually going through something like this right now. I've fallen deeply in love with someone only to find out it was all for nothing and she is just teasing me and wants the attention. When I first met her, she was safe, we were close, and then that all went away at one point. Then I saw her acting like that around other people, I don't know what it is but there is still this wishful thinking that says it wasn't for nothing and she was being genuine... Bottom line, this song is about being lead on and not being able to let go and you don't know why. There is something about them and they just keep pulling you in and you can't help yourself. You think you know them but you don't. It hurts and it's tough to get through.

    My Interpretation

I can't add much to anything everyone else has said, except that I'm pretty sure this song is connected to "Sparks Fly". Just a hunch, because in her notes in the Speak Now booklet, she says there are songs dedicated to her first love who she never expected to be her first heartbreak, and in the "Sparks Fly" lyrics, there's a part where she says "give me something that'll haunt me when you're not around". So "Sparks Fly" is part one of the love story, where they first fell in love, and Haunted is the follow-up, where he broke her heart.

I love this song so much. This and Better Than Revenge both remind me of Paramore's songs. I love how she's sort of changing her song image a bit, but keeping it the same at the same time. Does that make sense?

    My Interpretation

I think some of these lyrics might fit into an Evanescence song, and that terrifies me. I could tell from the music at the beginning that this would be a dark song, but to hear Taylor Swift singing it and know she wrote it is scary.

Taylor explained this song's meaning on her website: "'Haunted' is about the moment that you realize the person you're in love with is drifting and fading fast. And you don't know what to do, but in that period of time, in that phase of love, where it's fading out, time moves so slowly. Everything hinges on what that last text message said, and you're realizing that he's kind of falling out of love. That's a really heartbreaking and tragic thing to go through, because the whole time you're trying to tell yourself it's not happening. I went through this, and I ended up waking up in the middle of the night writing this song about it."

Taylor explained why she used a string section for this song: "I wanted the music and the orchestration to reflect the intensity of the emotion the song is about, so we recorded strings with Paul Buckmaster at Capitol Studios in Los Angeles. It was an amazing experience - recording this entire big, live string section that I think in the end really captured the intense, chaotic feeling of confusion I was looking for."

I completely and utterly agree with rainbowxx7. Well put, and I believe that is exactly what the song is about.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
