I know it hurts, I know you're bruised
But it's only on the inside.
I know you're lost and you're confused
Yeah it's only on the inside.
I see you walk and you're dragging your feet
But it's only for a moment.
Stuck at the part where you feel incomplete
Yeah it's only for a moment.

It's not too late to walk in my direction,
When honey, everything you needs in your reflection.

Who's gonna walk you home and who's gonna hold your hand?
When you're heavy like a stone and there's trouble where you stand.
No I won't tell your heart where to go
I'll make it feel something it won't
You could rearrange the stars and make them all your own
But you can't fall in love alone.

I know you're torn and in between dreams
But it's all you've ever known.
And I know you're worn out at the seams
Yeah it's all you've ever known.
Well there's no place left for you to run
You can cast your past into the sun
Watch it light up the night and honey, you will be fine.

You can't fall in love alone.

Tell me who's gonna walk you home.

Who's gonna walk you home and who's gonna hold your hand?
When you're heavy like a stone and there's trouble where you stand.
No I won't tell your heart where to go
I'll make it feel something it won't
You could rearrange the stars and make them all your own
Tell me who's gonna walk you home
Tell me who's gonna walk you home

'Cause you can't fall in love alone.

    My Interpretation

I think this song is about a girl that's hurt and confused (I know it hurts, I know you're bruised.....I know you're lost, and you're confused..), but the singer is trying to tell her that even though that's how she feels on the inside, she is still beautiful on the outside. I think that the "who's gonna walk you home" part is referring to how the singer will be with her to the very end (metaphor). I'm thinking that she probably hasn't fallen for him, and other men have given up on her (and who's gonna hold your hand When you're heavy like a stone And there's trouble where you stand). The singer is trying to tell her that he isn't going to tell or make her fall in love with him (o I won't tell your heart where to go Or make it feel something it won't), but that he'll still be there waiting for her in the end.

    General Comment

The minute I heard the piano opening on this song, I knew something good had come my way. I'm listening to the song and I still find it as comforting as I did last year. Whenever I'm in a bad mood I play this song and the negative emotions dissolve. Last winter I had periods of unhappiness (I won't say depression because I haven't been diagnosed as having such) and the opening lines of this song cheered me up so much. "I know you're hurt, I know you're bruised... but it's only for a moment." I think this song is the reason why Thriving Ivory is my second band now...

The meaning is pretty much what IAmAngel said above me, so I won't go into that. :)

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
