"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
Oh yeah
Oh yeah
So scared of breaking it
That you won't let it bend
And I wrote two hundred letters
I will never send
Sometimes these cuts are so much
Deeper than they seem
You'd rather cover up
I'd rather let them bleed
So let me be
And I'll set you free (oh yeah)
I am in misery
There ain't nobody
Who can comfort me, oh yeah
Why won't you answer me?
The silence is slowly killing me, oh yeah
Girl, you really got me bad
You really got me bad
Now I'm gonna get you back
I'm gonna get you back, yeah
Your salty skin and how
It mixes in with mine
The way it feels to be
Completely intertwined
Not that I didn't care
It's that I didn't know
It's not what I didn't feel
It's what I didn't show
So let me be
And I'll set you free
I am in misery
There ain't nobody
Who can comfort me, oh yeah
Why won't you answer me?
The silence is slowly killing me, oh yeah
Girl, you really got me bad
You really got me bad
And now I'm gonna get you back
I'm gonna get you back, yeah
You say your faith is shaken
And you may be mistaken
You keep me wide awake and
Waiting for the sun
I'm desperate and confused
So far away from you
And I'm getting there
I don't care where I have to run
Why do you do what you do to me? Yeah
Why won't you answer me, answer me? Yeah
Why do you do what you do to me? Yeah
Why won't you answer me, answer me? Yeah
I am in misery
There ain't nobody
Who can comfort me, oh yeah
Why won't you answer me?
Your silence is slowly killing me, oh yeah
Girl, you really got me bad
You really got me bad
And now I'm gonna get you back
I'm gonna get you back (come on)
Girl, you really got me bad
You really got me bad
Now I'm gonna get you back
I'm gonna get you back
(Girl, you really got me bad)

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.
Blue
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
Does anyone know what the first verse means? Besides that, I think it's about a girl who broke his heart, and gave him no answers/reasons for the break up? Haha, just a stab in the dark. And I think he's saying he's going to get her back for the misery she has caused him.
"Its not that I didnt care Its that I didnt know Its not what I didnt feel, Its what I didnt show"
Maybe he didn't show her love/she didn't feel loved, so she left, and now he's hurting. I'd love to hear some other interpretations of this song!
I think the song itself is about a relationship that isn't working, but even though he knows it's not working, it's still hard to just walk away from. He's so in love with her that even though he knows she's bad for him, he can't just quit her. He's in misery to be with her but in misery when he's not with her, and he thinks she's playing with his heart.

Specifically, in the first verse, I think he's trying to end it but she won't let him (So scared of breaking it but YOU won't let it bend). And that's why I like the video--if you've ever ended a relationship, you might feel like you've been physically beat up, even if you haven't been.
Thanks for the reply, that definitely makes sense! Sad in a way haha.
