Tossing hair a raving,
eyes a flashing blue.
All the living that you're saving,
won't buy your dreams for you.

Cut yourself a columbine,
tear it from the stem.
Now breath upon the petals fine,
and throw them to the wind.

Watch the petals dancing,
see them twirl and sing.
Now all your pride and prancing,
how much does it mean?

Watch the petals start to fly,
and then come falling down.
Hear the wind begin to cry,
as she sees some touch the ground.

Lady like the flower fair,
someday you'll have to fall.
And you can find me standing there,
to catch you if you call.

Tossing hair a raving,
eyes a flashing blue.
All the living that you're saving,
won't buy your dreams for you.

General CommentIt's about letting yourself be free. A Columbine is a fancy buttercup (Townes also spent a good amount of time in the city in Colorado.) The flower is a symbol for how fragile and momentary life is. One second you're alive, the next second you're plucked. No matter what you're going to die, so why waste any time? Why waste time on all the fancy pleasures when we know they are false and useless in the end?
