When I was young I knew everything
And she a punk who rarely ever took advice
Now I'm guilt stricken, sobbing with my head on the floor
Stop a baby's breath and a shoe full of rice, now.

Can't be held responsible
She was touching her face
I won't be held responsible
She fell in love in the first place.

For the life of me
I cannot remember
What made us think that we were wise and we'd never compromise
For the life of me
I cannot believe we'd ever die for these sins
We were merely freshman

My best friend took a weeks vacation to forget her
His girl took a weeks worth of Valium and slept
Now hes guilt stricken, sobbing with his head on the floor
Thinks about her now and how he never really wept he says

Can't be held responsible
She was touching her face
I won't be held responsible
She fell in love in the first place.

For the life of me
I cannot remember
What made us think that we were wise and we'd never compromise
For the life of me
I cannot believe we'd ever die for these sins
We were merely freshman

We've tried to wash our hands of all of this
We never talk of our lackin' relationships
And how were guilt stricken sobbing with our heads on the floor
We fell through the ice when we tried not to slip, we'd say

Can't be held responsible
She was touching her face
I won't be held responsible
She fell in love in the first place.

For the life of me
I cannot remember
What made us think that we were wise and we'd never compromise
For the life of me
I cannot believe we'd ever die for these sins
We were merely freshman

For the life of me
I cannot remember
What made us think that we were wise and we'd never compromise
For the life of me
I cannot believe we'd ever die for these sins
We were merely freshman

For the life of me
I cannot remember
What made us think that we were wise and we'd never compromise
For the life of me
I cannot believe we'd ever die for these sins
We were merely freshman
We were merely freshman

    Song Meaning
My opinion on this song is that it is about an abortion. Thats the first and only thing that came to mind when listening to the lyrics such as "Now I'm guilt stricken, sobbing with my head on the floor Stop a baby's breath and a shoe full of rice, now." I also think the valium relates because the woman who had this happen commits suicide or she is trying to deal with her mistake. The father of the child, "took a weeks vacation to forget here" and it says he "thinks about her now and how he never really wept"

This is the only way i can stand listening to this song. When i first heard it, it hit me deep inside. It remidned me of how much life can be lost due to stupid mistakes. Beautiful cover. Simply beautiful.

I don't believe that the first verse has anything to do with an abortion or even a pregnancy at all...stop a babys breath and a shoe full of rice...i took babys breath to be the small flowers they put in bouquets...like the ones brides carry down the isle....so i thought it was all about getting married and then regretting it later...i could be wrong though

    My Interpretation
I watched a lyric video and instead of "and a shoe full of rice, now" it said it was "and a shoot full of rye snow" so my first thought was drugs, and that makes the most sense to me.

Blank Space
Taylor Swift
This song is Swift's response to the negative reputation the media has given her. "I can make the bad guys good for a weekend" - the bad guys are the paparazzi to Swift, but are good to the "player" since association with Swift immediately gives publicity. Any publicity is good publicity and Swift knows this. "You can tell me when it's over" - the tabloids rumor relationships are over before the couple announces it officially. With this song Swift is portraying the way she is portrayed by the media. It is a sarcastic jab at how she views herself and how her "ex-lovers" only wanted to be with her to increase their fame. I applaud the brilliance in writing about how you always write about relationships. It is expected so Swift is giving the media what they want and profiting off the attention.

Alma Matters
Morrissey
The man has pseudo-friends who constantly criticize his actions. They moralize him, "teach" him and advise him to make a significant change in his life, because the way he is and what he does is not what they say it should be. They may find his life lame or immoral. They hold themselves up as role models. The man replies that he will make his own choices and decisions and he does not agree to unconditionally make himself under the influence of questionable quality advice. He justifies this by saying that there is always someone for whom he will be important, no matter what he does and no matter what he is. Although it is not said directly, I read it as meaning that he will always be important to himself in every way and he will always have his own support. "Everyone is different and maybe that's a good thing, but you exceeded that mark 1000 times" - I remember very well how sad the words I once heard (from my peers and it was in negative context) at school made me feel.
