I remember when it used to be easy
Used to look cute watching the TV
Used to lay there with wet hair
After the shower picking what to wear
But now you're dressing up for somebody else
Looking through my glass as the ice melts
Looking at the past just won't help
I just don't know how the chips all fell

Maybe 'cause I didn't follow through
Gave love I didn't follow suit
How you'd say "I'll always follow you"
I remember when it was

Only for me
Only for me
Only for me
Ain't that how it's supposed to be
Only for me
Only for me
Ain't that how it's supposed to be

I remember when it used to be fair
No games just truth or dare
No shame you used to care
You gave the goosebumps I don't wanna share
But now you're giving them to somebody else
Watching TV on somebody's couch
Blouse on the floor in somebody's house
I just don't know how it all went South

Maybe 'cause I got down to much
Too many too down to touch
But with you I never gave enough
I remember when it was

Only for me
Only for me
Only for me
Ain't that how it's supposed to be
Only for me
Only for me
But you know that I'll go on and

Wander 'til I get somewhere
Wander like I just don't care
I'll wander knowing it's not fair
I'll wander, look look looking

Wander 'til I get somewhere
Wander like I just don't care
I'll wander knowing it's not fair
I'll wander, look look looking

I'll wander, 'til I find someone
But it's just not you so I'm just not done
I could make a million calls to new tongues
I could find a million girls, I want one

You could draw a million lines in gold sand
I could walk across and hope to slow dance
A million love letters now turned to dust
And I remember when it was

Only for me
Only for me
Only for me
Ain't that how it's supposed to be
Only for me
Yeah

'Cause I remember when it was
Only for me
Only for me
Only for me
Ain't that how it's supposed to be
Only for me
Only for me
And you know that I'll go

Wander 'til I get somewhere
Wander like I just don't care
I'll wander knowing it's not fair
I'll wander, look look looking

Wander 'til I get somewhere
Like I just don't care
I'll wander knowing it's not fair
I'll wander, look look looking

I'll wander, 'til I find someone
But it's just not you so I'm just not done
I could make a million calls to new tongues
I could find a million girls, I want one

Only for me
Ain't that how it's supposed to be
Only for me
Only for me
Ain't that how it's supposed to be

    Song Meaning

One of the best songs on the album, that's for sure. I'm not sure why this got combined with the lyrics for Flashing Room, though. As for the meaning:

"I remember when it used to be easy
Used to look cute watching the TV
Used to lay there with wet hair
After the shower picking what to wear" ~He is reminiscing, thinking back to their relationship

"But now you're dressing up for somebody else
Looking through my glass as the ice melts
Looking at the past just won't help
I just don't know how the chips all fell" ~She's with someone else-Where did it all go wrong?

"Maybe cuz I didn't follow through
Gave love I didn't follow suit
How you'd say 'I'll always follow you'" ~Sees his own faults-tries to figure out what happened

The chorus basically represents him remembering when she made an effort for and loved him-and only him.

     "Wander till I get somewhere
Wander like I just don't care
I'll wander knowing it's not fair
      Wander, look look looking
      Wander till I get somewhere
Wander like I just don't care
I'll wander knowing it's not fair
Wander, look look looking" ~Trying to get over her and find someone else

     "Wander, til I find someone
But its just not you so Im just not done
I could make a million calls to new tongues
I could find a million girls, I want one" ~He wants HER

"You could draw a million lines in gold sand
I could walk across and hope to slow dance
A million love letters now turned to dust" ~It's over-forever

Basically, he is trying to accept that she isn't his anymore. He lost his chance and she's moved on. He wants her to come back...and love only him. I'm pretty sure we can all relate to that. :P

Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

When We Were Young
Blink-182
This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

American Town
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
